Complete cat food for the greedy.

Hi, Can anyone recommend me a complete dried cat food which is for cats who are very greedy/have insatiable appetites. My newest cat wont stop meowing for food and is begging all day.
He even jumped in the fridge when I was getting something out. Im feeding him at present a complete food for indoor cats plus a few small bits of chicken.
I would just like him to have something that is more filling so hes more satisfied.
(He is about 2-3 and doesnt have a thyroid problem.)

Wet would probably be better, dry food tends to be full of cheap cereals that cats don't need and therefore they eat more to get the stuff they do need,
raw is also a great option and they eat even less of that as it's all they need but you will need to do a bit of research on this as it takes a bit more than just plonking in a bowl at mealtimes ( unless you use the premade ones)
If you really want to stick to dry maybe a better quality one may be better, one with more meat and less/no grains ( you may already be doing this so ignore this suggestion if so :) )

Fish4Dogs version for cats doesn't have lots of filler.

Perhaps you could feed in a treat ball, like those dogs enjoy ?
  • Wet food gives him really bad wind.
I do give him decent dried food from pets at home and Royal canning.Hes not having Go cat etc.
I'll have a look at the treat balls. Thanks.

Felix gives my ed bad wind, plus a rather stinky litter tray  :) I've switched to better food and it's sorted, they are currently on bozita from zooplus, it may take a bit of trial and error but hopefully their are some foods out there that suits his tum better and keeps him fuller for longer.
Tbh my lot were on solely dry food until I researched their food and what's in it, even some of the expensive brands still have fillers.
im not going to tell you how to feed your mogs but just wanted to let you know what worked for us :)
Ps look up catit senses, I think they have cat feeders that are also toys, might keep him busy for a while!

They are re formulating fish4cats is the new version out yet? It wasn't last time I checked.

It's probably the wet food you are giving them. Mine are also terribly stinky on Felix but absolutely fine and healthy on Aldi cheapo cat food for some reason.

We fed Cookie on Felix when we first got her as we were advised that that was what she was used to. She had smelly wind and poo. We changed her to commercially produced raw food (Natural Instinct and Nutriment, but I'm going with Natural Instinct in future) and life is a lot sweeter Chez Addiscomber. The recommended amount looks quite small but she is clearly satisfied.

The higher the meat content in a food. The less the cat needs to feel full. I feed zoo plus Portia 21 grain free. 60% meat. £30 for 10kg. Lasts my two cats about 4 months.

I also feed grain free wet food. Zoo plus do great ones. But if you like by a b&m they sometimes have 48 hilife pouches for £10. Again. 60% meat. Tried and tried and tried raw but sadly they won't touch it.

Rule of thumb. Avoid supermarket crap. IE. Go cat. Whiskas. Felix iams etc.

There are a few exceptions. Asda top life is bozita on a different carton. Feline fayre. Hilife. And sainsburys encore is applaws in a different tin. But that wet is complimentary and not complete.

  • I found my cat had an insatiable appetite when given dried food. She's a big breed anyway and has a long double fur coat (similar to Norwegian Forest Cat but she's not pure breed). Because of this we didn't notice she was putting on a lot of weight until she topped 18lbs.

I did some research and have cut out all high carb dry food, switching over to high meat content wet food. She is much more satisfied. I was also horrified at how much we had been feeding her. Now I weight everything carefully and she's losing weight very slowly, which is the best way, but she will be eating like this for the rest of her life.

Also, we found out that she also wanted attention from us, but we misinterpreted that as wanting food. Once we started playing with her a lot more and interacting with her she seemed satisfied to walk off afterwards without wanting food.

Try putting quality food in one of those 2 on top of page:

    http://www.zooplus.co.uk/esearch.htm#q%3Dtreat%2520ball%26cats%3D1Cat%26catl%3D2%26p%3D1%26ci%3DCategory_facet%253D1%253A1Cat

Will keep a greedy cat happy for long periods of time, give him a work out and get him off your back begging ;)
