No it doesn't sound correct .... why not keep £2k in the account all the time, and then put an additional £500 in and straight out on the 3rd?

(There's no problem going over £2k, you just don't get any interest on the extra £500 but it'll be there for so short a time it doesn't matter...)

Just apply for a second the same way you did for a first, the T&Cs allow for two each.

thanks for the replies.. Assume you can flow the £500 between the 2 accounts to qualify rather than it have to come from an external source ?

With the account being paperless it is easy to get hold of copies of statements if you need them for something like a mortgage application?

Also is the paying in using a Post Office branch as simple as they make out on their website?

Yes, according to their online help:
If you are registered for Internet Banking, you can view, print and download statements dating back to July 2002, free of charge. If you have opted to stop receiving your statements you can order paper copy statements free of charge. Our website provides more information about registering for and using Internet Banking.

Alternatively, if you're registered for Telephone Banking you can call 0345 9758 758 to order a duplicate statement, or you can contact your account holding branch directly. Please note that there may be charges for this service. Details of these are available on our website under Rates and charges.
