    I've been Money Tipped!
The police officer may have thougt it was a faulty machine due to it being tampered with ie fraud. Calling it in does no harm and would take seconds.

OP could call the local station and ask if this was reported and get e reference number if it had indeed been called in.

I can only echo what has been said previously.

Your first port of call needs to be with hsbc who will complete an atm dispute form. When sainsbury completes a balance on the atm it should throw up a discrepancy which will hopefully corresponde with your missing cash. The funds will then be credited back to your account usually within two weeks.

I've rung my bank (HSBC) & they don't want to know. Where do I stand on this?

Make a complaint. HSBC should be investigating this issue for you.

  • This reminds me of somerthing simmilar.

I drew out £20 (a while ago now) and walked away. I realised my error, back tracked and yes, it was gone. I asked inside the supermarket but nothing had been handed in. So, I just took it on the chin and forgot about it.

FIVE YEARS LATER, yes 5 years !! I had a cheque in the post from Tesco for £20. !! :rotfl:

Thanks all for your help, phoned Sainsburys bank just to hear their version & they also said it's down to HSBC, phoned HSBC again & they've raised a disupte without quibble, even giving me a temporary refund subject to the outcome of the disupte. Just depends on who answers the phone it seems

Think you were just very unlucky with the person who answered the phone the first time.

However, least now lots of people who view this forum who didn't know the way the atm dispute works now will have more of an idea.

I think really you mean that a few more people will know, the method of resolving ATM disputes has been posted many, many times previously.
