Questions about changing ISP

Hello All
We are in the process of changing ISP from Virgin to BT, we have recieved the mac code via email from Virgin, the email states that if and when the mac code is used by another ISP Virgin will cancel our Internet & phone service, doe's cancel mean that Virgin will cut off our Inernet & phone thus leaving us with no Internet connection for about a month as BT gave us a date about a month ahead before connection.
We pay BT line rental for the phone but calls are paid to Virgin so maybe we will be able to use the BT line putting 1280 before we dial out ?
My question is, can Virgin cut us of as soon as the mac code is used by BT or do Virgin wait until a new ISP has the Internet connection working ?
We are not on any contract, just a monthly rolling system where we pay for Internet & phone calls made.

Thanks for any info's

Since Virgin National ADSL ( as oppossed to Virgin Cable ) is a resold BT product I would not imagine you will be offline for very long at all.
BT Openreach will do all the work for both ISPs.
That gum you like is coming back in style.

No, BT should use the MAC within 30 days and the service should be transferred the same day.
Getting a MAC is not giving notice, it's simply an option to quit that expires after 30 days-your service then continues.
Once you have a go live with BT, confirm your notice with VM National. Don't rely on BT to do that for you.

Thank you both for your replies, my only worry was that BT have given us a date of about a month ahead to switch to there service, if we were to give the mac code to BT now and inturn BT let Virgin know we are switching to BT we are trusting that Virgin wont pull the plug on our service instantly.

Having read both your inputs it sounds like this should not happen except for a short break (hopfully) on the actual switch over date.

Hope this is correct and it will be as seamless as possible.

    Thanks, Ginger555

No, VM won't disconnect until BT are ready to go live. That's the whole point of the MAC process.
