CEL court letter HELP!!!
fromme8
Hello everyone! I'm new to the board but can see that, like many others, I too have received a court claim form from CEL. I've followed all advice given and have even spoken to the court this morning to verify it's a real letter and emailed the co-op to complain. Even so I am worried about whether I should defend my case ie 10 mins overstay in an empty Co-op car park incase I do have to go to court and end up paying even more money to what I see as a scam firm. I've never been in this situation before and am feeling very stressed. I don't have a legal bone in my body and so don't have a clue how to mount a legal defence. Any legal advice out there would be greatly appreciated.
Is there anything else we can do to make CEL's life a misery?
Thank you for taking time to read yet another CEL related plea from a scared newbie.

First of a strong complaint email to steve.murrells@co-operative.coop and that has seen most peoples claim dropped, but ive sent you a pm with my email address, as you will need to send a defence in as well (just in case)Proud to be a member of the Anti Enforcement Hobbyist Gang.:D:T0

Thank you for taking time to give me the advice yesterday. I emailed the Co-op and have had an email back today saying that they are arranging to pay CEL directly for me. Fingers crossed.
Again, thank you very much for your help and advice. Anyone else having a problem with CEL, do follow kirkbyinfurnesslad's advice and email the co-op. He's a star! Hopefully they'll sort you out too.0 -
Well done on that
but you need to send in a defence just in case they forget or something. You don't want this going to a default if they don't sort it for you.
For the regulars : This thing with the coop is nuts, I have never seen anything like it before, the principle dancing to the agents wants, they must have signed a similar contract to somerfieldsWhen posting a parking issue on MSE do not reveal any information that may enable PPCs to identify you. They DO monitor the forum.
We don't need the following to help you.
Name, Address, PCN Number, Exact Date Of Incident, Date On Invoice, Reg Number, Vehicle Picture, The Time You Entered & Left Car Park, Or The Amount of Time You Overstayed.

I think that the Co-op legals must be tied up elsewhere. I cannot believe that the CEL contract is watertight. I suspect that the Co-op could break the contract if they wanted to. I hope that they have at least given CEL notice - perhaps they've done sums and worked out paying off is cheaper than the potential risk in legal costs.0 -

I understand that the Co-op is trying to extricate itself from the contract it signed. It does not want to be seen to be taking its customers to court so has decided that it costs less to pay the speculative invoices and associated extra charges on behalf of its customers than to break the contract.
I don't understand why the excessively paid Co-op management decided to employ CEL in the first place?Je suis Charlie0 -

Make sure you do that in case it gets overlooked at the Co-op.0 -

Perhaps for the same reason they kept The Rev Flowers in happy powders. You never know how far you can go until you go too far.0 -
Maybe CEL have realised that co-op will pay their speculative invoices whenever their "customers" don't so have decided its a winner to start submitting court cases for all refusiniks.
just a thought.Originally Posted by shortcrust

Wouldn't it be cheaper for the Co-op legal service to offer a free defence to the affected customers?
But that would mean the Co-op defending its customers from itself.Je suis Charlie0 -
CEL are milking the co-op on this one, another PPC showing just what a shower of s**t they really are.PPCs say its carpark management, BPA say its raising standards..... we all know its just about raking in the revenue. :eek:0
