    +1 ^^^

There seem to be a number of newbies starting new threads or even hijacking old ones who just don't come back, despite having a PCN to deal with, after getting a 'short' response.

Not everyone is fully forum savvy, they are often suffering trauma as a result of an out-of-the-blue official looking demand for a large sum of money (with its attendant threats), so I do feel we need to help them gently make that first step, either to start a new thread or to read through Coupon's newbies' sticky, rather than a seemingly snarling 'welcome'.
Please note, we are not a legal advice forum. I personally don't get involved in critiquing court case Defences/Witness Statements, so unable to help on that front. Please don't ask. .

I provide only my personal opinion, it is not a legal opinion, it is simply a personal one. I am not a lawyer.

The point is that regulars are not saints and seeing the same question coming up day after day, sometimes with the same car park or PPC already on page 1 at least once can certainly try one's patience.

It seems that the bone of contention is actually two-fold. The first is the answer "see c-m NEWBIES sticky" and the other is the perceived unwelcoming tone of replies.

The first is relative easily dealt with in the vast majority of cases. The stick thread's first advice is to read Umkomaas' walk through. So why not use the full wording of that walk through rather than linking people to the NEWBIES thread and then say "Now you have read this, for detailed help see NEWBIES thread" and supply the link?

I think this would be a help in the majority of cases but some would obviously fall out of this solution.

The second point about tone - well Sometimes I have been guilty of that and must try harder!

    That's a good idea Guy's Dad.

Also I now start a reply 'Welcome to MSE!' ...before I have a bit of a yawn about the Peel Centre again!
