LG out of warranty issue

Hi,

I bought an 47" LG Smart TV in December 2012, now one of the remote controls sometimes decides to play up (press volume button up once and volume increases to max unless volume down is pressed, when volume decreases to mute (and the actual button does not get stuck down)), very annoying. I have e-mailed LG customer service about this twice but they simply say that as it is outside of the year warranty, I have to buy a new remote. I have argued that it is not much outside of the warranty and had that their remote controls should last longer than a year, however I have now written a complaint letter and they have written back stating the same thing.

I know this is only a remote control, but I do not think I should have to buy a new one when this one is not too much over a year old and has had nothing happen to it to cause this issue. I had hoped they would have excellent customer service and sent me out a new remote at what is probably very little cost to them, but would have been quite a big thing for me.

Is it worth writing back again quoting any of the consumer rights acts or just give in to the big corporation?

Any advice or help would be much appreciated.
Thanks

    Changed the batteries?

If so I would just buy a new remote and move on, otherwise you will need to prove design or manufacturing default, rather than damage in use/misuse.

There are none that apply, any warranty has expired.
Just buy a one-for-all remote, they are not expensive.

You could of course invoke SOGA (against the retailer, not LG), but I doubt that you would be successful. However, nothing to lose by trying.
I'm also surprised by LG's attitude, they're missing a PR trick there.

Last time I had problems with a tv remote (not LG) some keys were unresponsive, some were hyper. New batteries made no difference so I took the covers off, sprayed a little WD40 on a tissue and gave the "switch" board a wipe over (it wasn't particularly dirty or dusty in there) but . ..

Instant cure :j worked better than ever, wish I'd done from new.
