Your next problem will be getting an insurance policy that allows the use of the policy to release a car from a pound. Good luck with that.

Here we go again, has anyone actually seen a policy where this isn't allowed (other than the DOC cover)

The only policy I've ever had that didn't allow this was a temporary policy, and a cover note, but seeing as most documents are electronic these days that doesn't seem to apply. Some business/motor trading policies also do not allow this.

I think Avivia have it in their general assumptions. Obviously they don't say you can't recover a car but they assume it's not in a pound when you take out the policy

AVIVA and Prestige asked if the car was in a pound at the time of the quote. Said it could not be used to release a vehicle from a pound.

Not quite the same, driving with no insurance carries a higher fine and penalty points on your driving licence.

Action taken for the offence of driving a motor vehicle on, or being kept/parked on a road or other public place with no insurance is the same offence - contrary to s.143, Road Traffic Act 1988. The action is taken by the police

The power to remove uninsured vehicles, as above, is s.165A of the same act.

Action taken under the continuous insurance requirement - s.144A of the same act, is taken by the DVLA not the police.

Yes, the last couple I've taken out have been quite explicit in not allowing the removal of an already-impounded uninsured vehicle.
