                    Good afternoon all,
I was wondering is someone would be able to advise, okay.... heres the story, My car was parked on the driveway to my old house, said car has been off the road untax'ed/insured for 3 weeks. I have recently moved address and As I was unable to insure or tax the car at the time, I pushed it onto the side of the road outside my old house, (No parking enforment in place) and was not obstructing anything.
I know a car needs to be tax/insured to be on the public road, I knew this at the time and knew the risk, My thinking is the car would be there until payday (today) get it taxed insured and drive to my new house.
All of which I thought was the best option in my circumstances. Better than driving with no tax insurance.
However, checking on the car daily, I went yesturday morning to find it was no Londer there. I immediatly went to my local police station knowing what would of happened.
The officer on the desk informed me that the car had been taken and that I would have to wait until the officer who delt with it comes back on shift (which is tomorrow night)
I asked politly is I could resolve the issue there and then. pay any fines and sort the car out. I was told no "wait until wednesday" I gave my contact number as was told he would be in touch
My questions are this, how much of a fine am i looking at? If the car is in a private/police compound, who is liable for the £20-50 a day charge as I am having to wait for the police to contact me when I have been willy for what will be 3 days to sort it out,
that could end up been £150+ on told of the origanal tow-fee.
Please can someone advise if this is how the police work? and what can I do? I am thinking of going in tonight but i work 12 hours a day so Im guessing any compounds will be closed.
Many thanks
P

Under the Continuous Insurance Enforcement (CIE) Regulations (in force since June 2011), mean that all vehicles on a public road have to have insurance. Obviously driving whilst not insured remains a more serious offence, but parking on a road is also now an offence. The police can issue a fixed penalty notice for £100, or can summons you to court (maximum fine £1000). They will also charge you for the removal of the vehicle and storage.0

The police will need to see insurance and tax before they authorise the release of the vehicle. If they issue you a penalty notice then it will have to be paid to the court rather than directly to the police (usually within 21 or 28 days depending on the type of notice).0

You will need to pay the pound fees and also tax it and insure it before you can get it back, you can also expect to get a fine for not sorning the car and another for using it on the road without insurance, not good I'm afraid.0

Thank you for the reply. All of which I expected, however the storage fee and lack of help from the police in me trying to resolve this issue is what I was wanting guidance on.
No contact for 3 days * £50 a day = money I cant afford when I wanted to resolve this yesterday.
Surley not only the officer who removed the veh can sort it out0

Parking on the road without insurance is the same as driving without insurance.Under the Continuous Insurance Enforcement (CIE) Regulations (in force since June 2011), mean that all vehicles on a public road have to have insurance. Obviously driving whilst not insured remains a more serious offence, but parking on a road is also now an offence. The police can issue a fixed penalty notice for £100, or can summons you to court (maximum fine £1000). They will also charge you for the removal of the vehicle and storage.0

The veh was not driven on the road, does this matter?0

The problem you have is that only police officers can issue the tickets, as it involved reporting you and cautioning you incase you don't pay it. I agree with you though that they should have some way of dealing with this. The reply will always be though that you broke the law so have to deal with the consequences. Also, as you have recently moved, have you updated the log book with you new address?0

Not quite the same, driving with no insurance carries a higher fine and penalty points on your driving licence.0
