Trouble with Amazon seller

Hi

Not sure if this is the right thread for this! :o

I ordered a neg scanner from a Amazon Seller.

I emailed them today to ask when it was dispatched as it's been over 10 days.

They emailed me back saying they tried to deliver on the 22 June and left a card - NO CARD!!!

then again on the 23rd June - I was in all day! no one buzzed and they said someone left a card on the main door of the block of flats I'm in but the door has a special metal seal around it so it is impossible to slide anything underneath it.. the next email from them said it was left in the door jam... what door jam???? it's a full smooth metal seal.. I offered to send a photo! ;)

I now have to pay a further £6.50 for another delivery but they might not deliver again? or leave a note/card so I have no way of knowing if I am throwing money away.
What do I do?

The scanner is half price I would find anywhere else but I'm also really angry that they have ignored my explainations... what exactly do I have to gain from not answering the (non -existant) cards ... I really wanted this scanner and got very excited ever time the door went... some religious types with pamflets got a rather cheesed off look!

Do you think the fact that I'm currently living in a run down council flat have anything to do with it... my friends flat that I'm privatly renting isn't council and privately owned and costs a bomb! Obviously makes me dodgy by association.

I did send my last email with the note at the end... obviously youre courier service is more important than your customers!

what do you lot think... should I bow down and pay more even though I might not get it? or ask for a refund?

appreciate any answers.

update: apparently they don't deliver on the weekend... so why say they tried on the 23rd June which is a Saturday????
seller wants me to call the courier and ask them how they put a card under a metal door that has a security seal on it??? with no door jam?

update 2: I've just called the courier company and they said they do not leave cards!!!!!!!

I said my flatemate was in on the 25th which is when they made the second delivery so the lady at the courier service said she must be twisting the truth! I've known my flatemate for 7 years and she has nothing to gain from saying if someone called or not!

I'm gutted that I've wasted my time on this. and now I'll have to run around the shops trying to find a cheapy neg scanner.

I don't suppose there is anyone I can complain too and will just have to let it go.

I've just sent another email saying that you can either pay the extra fee or refund my money.

it says that I can make a claim after the delivery date which is the 10th July... but so far he hasn't refused to refund me - I hope it goes back on my card quickly!

I'm just amazed that they kept saying I should call the courier to arrange the time to deliver but how do I know that they tried to deliver it and who do I call if there is no card?? they couldn't understand that bit or am I being a bit thick?

apparently it is their policy not to leave a card as someone else could pick it up?!?!?! that means the person who paid for it can't pick it up as well?!?!??!

I wouldn't mind so much much both the seller and courier where completely unhelpful and didn't even try to be! And tried to make out that it was my fault?

I'm now trying to find somewhere that sells negative scanners and that I can pick it up - so far pc world have 1 - such a shortage now - everyone is using digital camers which I do to but I have a lot of old negatives that need scanning.

mental note: don't order anything from anyone if it's a large item!

thanks for your help... will keep that in mind if I don't get my refund asap!

I think it's more to do with the delivery company. which he led me to believe it was a private one but it's not! That information would of helped too. The guy that I'm in contact with at Digital-systems-com-ltd is rather unhelpful.

He said he'd called the courier and apparently they told him that they left a card on those dates (someone got the date wrong which isn't really a problem) but why say they left cards when it's their policy not to?

He's just sent a 'nice' official email - like a standard reply. If he'd sent that in the first place I wouldn't be so annoyed!

I can either pay again for delivery and finally get my scanner that sells usually for £88 and is costing me £35 + £6.50 postage but now have to pay the postage again!

so I guess I've got to decide whether I want the scanner or not... sod that guy! Not sure I want to lose a bargain and go through the hassle of trying to find one on the high street.

what a hassle over something that should be simple.

There's no way I'd pay postage again. I haven't used A-Z claims before but I'd seriously be entertaining the idea.

How is it your fault that no-one told you when the item would be delivered, and no card was left?

I'm hoping I don't regret this but I'm going to risk it and pay the bl@@dy delivery charge again and get it delivered to my work place... if it doesn't arrive then I will raise hell and make complaints left, right and centre!

apparently, now that courier does have a policy of leaving cards??????? eh?!??!?

    Update:

I've now got a nice email back - his manager has got involved! :p

They are paying the delivery charge themselves and it will be delivered to my work place! :T

apparently they are going to complain to the courier that they are not leaving cards for customers... does help... How do you know if something was delivered or not and how do you know who to call and re-arrange a delivery!?!?? didn't realise this was a difficult concept to understand!

Fingers crossed that it will arrive soon... hope I don't get mugged carrying it home! :D

    Further update:

Tested the scanner after some hassle with my USB 2.0 card but couldn't get the scanner to work so tried plugging it back in to USB 1.0 slot which sorted that.

BUT.. .the quality of the scan is awful... pink stripes down the whole image and it's all rather blurred - I'm a photographic retoucher so I do have experience of very expensive and cheap scanners & what to do with different resolution settings.
I scanned an image at 12000dpi and it was awful, used another friends cheap scanner at 300dpi and that was excellent.

I sent a comparison of the two scans to the company I got it from and they said I can post it back to them and if there's a fault they will replace it.

BUT - if it costs me £8.50 to post a manual through the post how much is great big scanner going to cost me?????? I can't believe the hassle of this!

I wish I just popped to PC world and got one for £70 and I would be well on my way of getting through my couple of hundred negs!

basically the scanner cost me £40 and now I'll be spending another £20???? on top to send it back... then mess around for them to replace it... I'd rather have my money back and go get that one from PC world (book it online and get some cashback from quidco or similar website!)

I will not be buying any items like this again from the internet even if it is cheaper.

Anyone know what I should do - I only have this one guy's email address and he isn't very helpful.

    suggestions welcome please.
And anyone know how to post such an item... I've never posted a large item like this before - courier???

  • Try Pay per Drop, they list on Ebay and in my area use DHL. £5.99 for next day delivery, I think the insurance value is up to £500 but you could check that on their listing.

Might also be worth phoning Amazon Customer Services 0800 279 6620 to discuss the problem with them.
