I've just had a bit of a Santander nightmare.

I set up two 123 accounts. The DDs I set up for the first account showed up on that account within a couple of days. But as for the second account, I set up three DDs just to be sure and they hadn't appeared on that account after a couple of weeks.

The companies to whom the DDs were to paid assured me that their systems showed them as set up. Santander had no record - all they could suggest was to wait to see if the DDs showed up at the time they were paid.

Well, the DDs didn't pay - they all bounced back. I've spent a happy weekend trying to placate utility companies and Sky TV.

Anyway, the good news is that I reset up the DDs on the account and this time they are showing so hopefully now is all ok.

I'm thinking there is some sort of glitch on Santander's systems.

If you've complete the forms correctly with the utilities then personally I'd be giving them and Santander a piece of my mind, and not placating them. There is a direct debit guarantee that is supposed to make sure you're protected from any errors or problems, if it caused me problems I'd be making formal complaints to everyone involved, and expect a few quid for phone calls and hassles.

Also make sure this doesn't adversely affect your credit file, ensure that all the companies don't give the cras late payment information of it was their fault.

I can't really afford to wait to be honest, given i have chosen to give an annual donation due to be debited sometime in the summer to each respective charity.

I think i will contact Santander and should i find there to be no record of either on their system, consider Money Bunny's line of action and try re-setting them once again.

    Thanks everyone

"Sometime in the summer" gives the charity plenty of time to set up the DD. Why should they rush? I do hope you've made worthwhile donations and are not gaming the system by making annual donations of some trivial amount just to qualify for some interest. :(

If you want a quick and easy DD, at no cost, use PayPal. A single PayPal account can pull money by DD from several bank accounts.

Likewise, I am experiencing a similar situation with Halifax Reward account, again 2 direct debits have yet to appear.
I presume you know an annual DD will not satisfy Halifax's condition for the reward payment? Two DDs must be used in each statement month.
