Direct Debits not showing

Hello all,

I have just set up a 123 account with Santander and at the same time set up 2 Direct Debits with British Red Cross and the RNIB. I did this on Sunday evening. I've just checked online and neither happen to appear in my list of Direct Debits.

Likewise, I am experiencing a similar situation with Halifax Reward account, again 2 direct debits have yet to appear.

Of course, I might be answering my own question here but is it simply just a case of waiting for each respective bank to upload the details onto my online account? If so, how long does the process normally take? It seemed to happen instanteously from memory with my 1st 123 account, but on this occasion, i am just wondering whether any delay will potentially affect my interest entitlement.

On my own part, do i need to inform the bank?

Thanks in advance

It can take up to a month for a DD to show, though mostly you can see them in your bank account within about a week after you set them up.

No need to tell your bank anything about them because they couldn't do anything with them until the payee contacts them.

Up to a month? Really? I have confirmation the DD's have been set up by each respective charity but without acknowledgement on the bank's part (at least online yet) will that have any bearing on my entitlement to the interest payment? I know the bank may be aware themselves but i know sometimes they can play hardball, so i don't particualarly want to enter into a quarrel with them about dates and processing times/deadlines etc..

    Thanks anyway

I queried with NatWest when direct debits that had been set up did not show online. I was informed that they would not appear until the first payment was taken and this was the case with all banks. I was able to disprove that all banks are the same by producing a First Direct statement that DID show direct debits for which no payment had been taken.

Perhaps, though not the case with all banks, it is the case with some banks other than NatWest. I don't know about Santander.

Deary me, the scenario is playing out in my head already -

"Sorry you did not meet the set criteria of 2 Direct Debits required in order to qualify for interest on your account balance last month"

"But i did set up the 2 direct debits"

"Unfortunately they were not acknowledged on your account until after the interest is paid... sorry, you lose"

Ive had it where DD did not show up on account until first payment had been taken.

I thought the same as you but all was fine in the end.

They'll pay the interest if you have the DDs set up by the end of the account month so no need to panic for a while yet!

AFAIK the DD`s can be set up but don`t have to be drawn on.
ie: inactive, just there if needed.

That is correct they dont have to be drawn on - but do bear in mind that inactive DD's can expire (think its after 12 months).
