My other half brought a 43inch Plasma TV from Best Buy in July 2012.
Now there is yellow and pink discolouration on the screen which is slowly spreading more and more.
No I have no recourse under the sale of goods act with Best Buy as they no longer operate in the UK. How about with Samsung. Really could do with some advice regarding this.

Did you buy with a credit card?
If so, have a read of MSE's Section 75 article.
In there you will find that the credit card company are equally responsible for performance of the contract, so any SoGA issues can be taken up with them.
Unless you are looking for a technical solution, it might be an idea to get this thread moved to the Consumer Rights board.
Edited to add:
Samsung offer a two year warranty on some products.
Might be worth looking into that.0 -
As above, if it's got a two year warranty. If 12m only, still ask (nicely)-you have nothing tolose. No free lunch, and no free laptop

Check the warranty, 2 years is a reasonable period to expect these days as many suppliers offer this and some even 5 years. I've recently been asking on these boards about my parents Samsung TV (37" LCD) which was having a similar fault - they had to pull the set towards them and the fault would go for a period of time at least but it was getting worse.
I contacted Samsung, on their behalf, through their website/support and they came back quickly but could only offer the usual, check leads/connections, try plugging in a different source or update software/firmware. Failing all these, it would have meant going through one of their Service Centre for repair at cost as it was thought it was out of warranty (3 1/2 years old).
The good news for my parents in the end was they discovered they actually had a 5 year warranty! :T Somehow they hadn't realised this and neither did the shop where they bought from , even when they took it in to check the fault themselves a while back (without success).
I've no idea how they didn't see this on the paperwork originally but thankfully it was seen in the end when they contacted the supplier again more recently.
The net result is a Samsung Engineer came out yesterday, took the back off the TV on site and fitted a new circuit board! As he was confident this would solve the problem. Hopefully this will do the trick though it's very early days. My Mother say's the picture certainly looks a lot better now :T.
I get the feeling, having looked into this problem online, there does seem to be quite a few examples of Samsung TV problems of this nature but that could just be a perception thing and if I looked at other makes it might appear to be the same for them. Still, I don't think I will be buying a Samsung TV on the strength of what I've seen.
Good luck with solving your TV fault - I would certainly not be happy with a faulty TV within 2 years and would hope Samsung can do something even if it is actually out of warranty?

Sorry, just re-read your question and see that you say the supplier (Best Buys) is no longer trading. Definitely go to Samsung, surely they will support you in the circumstances??0
