Ok, so I've heard that the company doing the report are really good local firm, they actually did the damp proof and timber treatment in the house we're buying, and they also did my mums in the 80's! Small world!0

Looks like they will be doing your damp proofing and timber treatment too!
On what basis was the damp and timber report suggested?0

The timber treatment is still in guarantee, they also did a report on the house 10 years ago and there was nothing to report.
The building society have requested it as the house is over 100 years old.0

The only thing that bothers me is that if damp is detected, and they refuse to give us the mortgage. I don't think the vendor will negotiate as they are barely making their money back, and the housing market here is moving so fast that they will be able to find another buyer at the same price within days.0

imo if they are a company that also provide damp treatments, it is rather likely they will find damp0

Unfortunately I don't have a choice but to use them, they are the only company approved by the bank within a 30 mile radius.0
