My flight delay claim has been accepted but the (small) airline (based outside the UK) wants me to give them bank details and more etc on a Word attachment they have sent.
I have shown this to my bank who has advised me not use it.
I requested a cheque but they say they will pay only via bank transfer.
The tickets were originally purchased online with a credit card.
Any ideas?

Ask them to credit it to the original creditcard ?
Without knowing the airline it's impossible to know but I suspect your bank may be over-reacting with their advice. Think of all the companies who already have your bank details for direct debits ....also if you pay anyone by cheque they will have the same info. Unless your bank is very lax on security why would giving sort and acc number to the airline be a problem ?
If you are that concerned why not open a seperate savings acc with a bank or building society and give the airline that account number-and if you feel the need just withdraw and close the account once you have the money.I Would Rather Climb A Mountain Than Crawl Into A Hole

Hi, thanks for your comments.
The airline was Darwin, who are based in Switzerland and operate from Cambridge, but impossible to contact properly and so I cannot authenticate any of this.
Agreed about a separate account etc and this was offered by my bank following a second enquiry, BUT my main concern is identity theft.
A friend of mine suffered this where someone had managed to use it to open a bank account, get a payday loan and disappeared leaving it all to my friend to sort out.
The airline's form was just a word document attachment, not even linked via a https address.
Now we have the EU ruling expect to receive "your compensation claim is ready" types of phishing emails to to the rounds.0 -
We've had the EU rulings for quite a while -and as not that many people (comparatively speaking) claim for delay (or get delayed in the first place) as a percentage of the population I doubt it's a viable "pond" for the phishing scammers to bother with.
As for identity theft -I wouldn't see Switzerland as a country to worry about-their data protection laws make ours look lax.
Maybe Moneybookers or PayPal or just forget the refund if they won't refund it back to the original card (assuming it still exists).
I don't think I've seen any reports of identity theft as a result of claiming from an airline - not saying there aren't any -just that if there was a significant risk there would be reports. Googling brings up no results btw.
You could print the word doc and snail mail it to them if that made you more comfortable than emailing.I Would Rather Climb A Mountain Than Crawl Into A Hole
