And yes, I am firing emails to them all the time and getting zero responses, but I won't give up :)

Ever heard the (multiply-attributed) quote about the definition of insanity being to do the same thing over and over again while expecting different results?! ;)

I don't know where ''unknown'' charge is from?
It is obvious the standing order has missed the cut off day for payment , the 0% offer has been rescinded, interest has been added together with late payment fees.

    Er, wrong thread?!

I agree with eskbanker that continuing to email when you get no results is pointless.
I'm not saying don't pursue it but you need to find a different angle.
I'm not sure that I'm in a good position to advise, but I think in your position I would be going back to halifax with more evidence that this charge is wrong i.e. isn't your charge. I think that's worth a shot and they do at least answer the phone.

I agree it can't be right that you can do nothing about this.

Hehe, Insanity, you might be right there, however....

I thought I would try a different approach and contacted them through their Facebook page. For some reason this got very quick replies and after a few messages I finally got this resolution through my email today. A small victory (if they pay up) but a victory all the same.

Thank you for all who posted with advice.

    Dear Mr. Thompson,

Please accept my sincere apologies for any inconvenience you have experienced while trying to resolve the issue with the toll charge. In an effort to regain your confidence in Thrifty Car Rental, I have issued a credit in the amount of $41.45. This represents a refund of the toll and administrative fee ($16.45) and $25.00 as a customer service gesture. Please allow 5 - 7 business days for this amount to appear on your billing statement.

Thank you once again, Mr. Thompson, for taking the time to notify us of this situation. We look forward to serving you again soon at Thrifty Car Rental.

    Sincerely,

Good to hear that it was resolved in the end.

Sorry to butt in but I will ask about a experience I had a few years ago, I bought something by visa debit card and the company ended up charging me about a thousand pounds for stuff I never got and the bank refused to do anything about it as they told me by using my card with them once it meant they can charge it for anything!

You've been around for long enough and posted enough times to know that you should have started your own thread if you have something to say that has no relevance to the OP's (hopefully now resolved) issue - but what you were told is incorrect, and had you raised it on here at the time you'd have been told how to get it sorted.
