Hi, I'm not sure if this is the right place to post this thread, please excuse me if I'm wrong. May 2013 my car was hit whilst parked on the main road by a drunk driver. It was very early morning and he thought he could get away with it. Little did he know that I was awake and looked outside to see what happened and there he was trying to drive off even though his car was severely damaged. I ran to catch him out and found that he was under the influence of alcohol. The police were called and he was arrested with his vehicle being seized. I had my car repaired since then, however my insurance company have not yet settled my claim. They are saying that the crime ref no that I was provided by the police does not exist!!!!! I provided them with the drivers details and the police details with a witness statement from my neighbour but they are still unable to do anything as the crime ref number does not exist. What can I do now???? Please help

Probably because you haven't got a crime number. Excess alcohol is not a recordable crime so there won't be a crime number.

Check to see if the car had insurance held on it on MID.
If it did, ask your insurance what they are playing at.
    Be happy...;)

It was a crime reference number as the driver was uninsured and did not have a licence

Did the car have insurance held on it, if it did the drivers status is not relevant.
This is confusing, but if the car shows as insured on the date on MID, then the claim should be paid.
Think it costs £4 to search and provide the insurance company.

They're not recordable crimes either, so your number isn't a crime number. You insisting it is will confuse the insurance company.

Sorry to confuse the matter more than it already is. It is a CAD number that they had provided me with.

I was told by the officers that the car itself was insured and my insurance company told me that they can get their costs from the other insurance company, but the problem is that the CAD number provided by the officers can not be found.

It wont be, it is a police Log number, they do not have access to the police computer and files are confidential .
You might be better asking to speak to someone who is not on their first day reading from a script.
    Be happy...;)

    Met police by any chance?

Give them a ring and obtain the correct number.
