I'm inclined to think the same-just that I have no way of proving it!

And they have no way of proving it was you either. The fact that you were supposedly the only other people there isn't enough. They need firm proof. Don't worry.
I'm not a lawyer, so this is just my opinion. Don't go acting on legal advice you get from a stranger on the internet!

If the police comes to see you, make sure you mention in passing that when you left the agent stayed on at the property...

If the police take it seriously which I doubt it would be a theft investigation.
They would have to arrest someone on suspicion of theft of property so they can search your property for evidence.
They would not require a Warrant if they arrest one of you.
    Be happy...;)

Just don't let the bizzies string you along about 'helping with enquiries', there's no such thing as an informal chat

Worth a sit down with a ’30 minute free' solicitor if you've never had dealings with the police. They will be looking to 'solve' the crime and are not on your side in any shape or form.

i'd ignore the post above and be as co-operative as possible. I suspect the police won't even come to see you and just speak to you on the phone.

Out of interest, did they say what the missing valuables are?

I can't understand why anyone would leave valuables lying round knowing strangers would be looking round

    Ah!
The only cooperation to give is to tell the police that:
    - they did not take anything,
    - they were accompanied by the agent at all times,
    - the agent stayed behind when they left.

    Nothing more.
Never say more than you have to when what you say can be used against you.
  • Agreed just state the facts.

absolutely - this is what I meant. you don't want to be sent to prison by a military court for a crime you didn't commit. you'd then have to escape from a maximum security stockade to the nearest bus station. you'd be wanted by the government and you'd survive as soldiers of fortune. If you have a problem, if no one else can help, and if you can find them....maybe you can hire The A-Team.

And there's always the risk of !!!!-meat sandwiches.

    Edit:
Forum apparently automatically censors another word for 'rooster'... Sad, sad.
