Sky Broadband Speed

Recently signed up to Sky BB and they estimated a speed of 11 - 18 mpbs. We are getting 2 mpbs.
Have been through all of the troubleshooting with them and an engineer has been on the phoen to me and advised that I never should have got estimated that speed - due to the distance I am from the exchange 2mpbs is my lot.
Is there any point in me trying to get out of my contract and signing up to a new provider or will the speed be the same? If so, will just have to get onto Sky CS and see what discounts and freebies I can get out of them to compensate

Chances are the speed will be the same or very similar. How far are you from the exchange?
Check http://www.samknows.com/exchange_search to see what is available on your exchange.0 -

The Sky Engineer I spoke to over the phone said approx 3 miles. Had an engineer booked to come out but he rang the day before saying there was no point - the speed cant be improved.0 -

These are the stats I posted on the Sky Help Forum a while back when I was originally trying to get it resolved. Similar stats when I do it through test socket.0 -
All I can do is confirm what you are being told, a 67 db line is not going to support much more than the 2mbps that you are getting. Your only option to get a faster connection would be FTTC, if your local cabinet has been enabled. That gum you like is coming back in style.0

I'm currently in the process of moving to Sky also, and they're estimating between 11.2 and 18Mbps.
However, it also says this - which may be of interest to you -
"
There are many factors that affect your Access Line Speed. If you have a line speed of 8.0Mbps or less, this is significantly below your estimate and you should contact us.
We will carry out our diagnostic and resolution processes to help improve your speed. Following our attempts to improve your speed, and after you have carried out our recommendations, if your Access Line Speed does not exceed this, you can leave your contract without penalty within three months of your service activating."0 -
If you do stick with Sky, have a look at this and ask for a great big discount:

New and some existing customers are getting BB and Line Rental for 7.50 or 12.50 per month e.g. post #261 on thread link (you're practically a new customer, as well).0 -

Thats great to know, thanks. Doesnt sound like there is any point in my going through the hassle of leaving if I am not going to get better speeds anywhere else....however I can use this to my advantage in my quest to get some discount / free stuff!0 -
2Mb? That's 6 times faster than I am getting with Plusnet at the moment!!
For the last few weeks I've been down to 0.25mb and the connection keeps dropping.I have tried everything, new filters, swopped routers, BT engineer came and tested the line = no problem. This is driving me mad>0 -
did can you extract your router line stats? That gum you like is coming back in style.0
