I wouldn't give a toss. Only a miserable sod would whine about a colleague that needs to take more bathroom breaks.

It depends of course if those extra frequent breaks impact on the persons ability to do the job.

If they do then I would happily "whine"

Really? If your colleague always came in 50 minutes late to work any no one ever said anything to them would you be equally happy?

To colleagues they just see the person disappear all the time and have no idea if they are going to the loo for a call of nature, to check their emails, going for a drink or something else.

Have you ever worked in a call centre type environment? Many are terribly soul destroying places and people have become so tetchy that they'll pick up on anything. Even had it said that it was unfair that one person always was the one to get the manager their coffee rather than the team taking it in turns to do it for the manager.

I don't think using the toilet should be considered a break, at all. You cannot equate that to a fag break, which is the equivalent to having a coffee and snack, ie an actual break.

I would consider using the toilet a paid part of the day, because you're basically preventing extra work for the cleaners, by not having to cleaning up a yellow puddle!!

As said above, if you have to go, you just go, we're all human and we're all different. This should not be a reason to discriminate.

I'd hate to work for an employer that was so strict with monitoring break times that this was a concern.

If it was me I'd be telling the employer to stop monitoring my toilet use and I'll log myself into a work state called "unplanned break" if and when I need an unplanned BREAK.

In fact, if they had a problem with it, I'd have a "dirty protest" on the manager's desk, "log that"!

If I were restricted in the number of toilet breaks I could take, this would simply make me need to go more often (just like when doing an exam or when at the theatre so I can't get up without disturbing others). Such a policy must backfire. These are adults and should be able to go to the loo whenever they need to

We used to have to raise our hands and let our supervisor know when we needed to use the bathroom at one of my slave/warehouse jobs, lol

There are too many employers abusing their position with bs like this. It makes me so angry and I'm glad that I'm not an employee.

I don't know how it would stand in an employment tribunal, but I would look for another job, personally.

the problem is, is that the rules and regs most likely have been brought in because employees abused it.

That would only apply if the employee had a disability, in which case it would be a reasonable adjustment. In the information given I don't believe the condition would be classed as a disability.

Adults would surely not react with the attitude 'I can't go therefore I want to go more often'? That sounds pretty childish to me.
