"best" unlimited home broadband

Possibly one for a bit of debate but I've had enough of talktalk, I'm on their FTTC product and probably get 30-33Mbps but latency seems rubbish and I'm guessing a part of this is down to their "homesafe" rubbish you can't avoid
My contract is up in a few months, but no harm in planning early. I guess my real requirements are;
* I need unlimited usage (no TV license so extensive HD streaming etc for a family home, I think I average around 400GB/month downstream but sometimes much more)
* The latency on TT FTTC is irritating, so someone with 'better' average latencies would be ideal - I'm guessing TT are particularly bad here though
* Wife needs unlimited any time phone calls (tried without before, trust me we need it!)
* Ideally no deep packet inspection/throttling/filtering/etc. Nothing dodgy I just don't like the privacy invasion/precedent and performance impact.
* I work from home a fair bit (about 50/50 with the office 70 miles, 2.5hrs and an over £50 train ride), so I need reliability. I used to have a spare connection before I moved last (1x VM and 1x ADSL as a failover just to ensure I always had a connection for work!)
I guess the nub of the last one is I went with TT to save cash, they've sort of done the job and were ok but the connection is a less good experience since I moved, and if I need to throw a vew more quid at a provider for something significantly better then so be it.
I'm slightly reluctant on VM due to previous customer service dealings and what seems ridiculously overpriced phone line/bundle costs, but may be persuaded if that's the real best option...
Any suggestions?

So does this mean there are no good broadband providers???

We were with BT until the price rises a while back and left for Plusnet. Unlimited downloads with no apparent restrictions on up / download. I'm in a house with multiple laptops / ipads and 2 teenagers who are always online.
Cheaper than BT but owned by the same company, overall pleased with the move.Space for rent, apply within - Free trial on Thanks button though0 -
Cool thanks. I got the impression BT were near-enough as restrictive as talktalk(?) but Plusnet might be worth a look, anyone moved TT to plusnet and able to comment on performance difference?
A colleague abroad has 1Gb fibre apparently for about £12 a month equivalent, we're doing something wrong

You are pushing the envelope and it is working. I assume you are on the same deal as me which costs £28.50 per month (£10 Medium Fibre, £10.50 Value Line Rental, £2.50 Simply Broadband, £5.50 Anytime calls).
Do you really want the disruption of changing service provider, in the hope that you will get a tiny bit of performance improvement?
My experience of TalkTalk is not bad at all, particularly if you leave well alone and just let it do what does best. Stick with the devil you know is my motto.0 -

The package I stated, BT Infinity 2 Unlimited, is exactly what it says on the tin. There are no restrictions on it, ever. I'm on it and it rocks, but it isn't cheap. Plusnet are cheaper but I don't know if they offer an unrestricted service. You would need to look into that.0 -
Yes I am on BT Infinity 2. It really is the business. I get 76Mb download and 20Mb upload, rock solid all day every day. No FUP, I absolutely hammer it and easily do 300GB per month on some months.
It isn't cheap but in total I pay £52 per month for line rental, weekend calls, broadband, extra tv channels, HD and BT sport. The price without TV is £42 but at £10 a month you may as well have the TV too.
In terms of other providers, I was on sky unlimited for a long time and could not fault that. Only £10 per month too for completely unlimited. But their pro fibre package costs more than BT so for ADSL only I would say go with sky.0 -
Virgin Media, some good deals to be had (ongoing)0

Virgin Media cap (traffic manage) heavy internet users. Quite draconian actually. So much so they got into trouble with the ASA over their 'Superfast' adverts.0 -
