Hi i'm hoping to get some sound advice on here because i'm pulling my hair out (what's left of it!!) and i don't know where to turn.
I had an accident Sept last year. It was 10mph and i ran into the back of a transit van. Basically i broke a lens on a rear light and snapped the bottom off my number plate. First mistake i gave him my details, he didn't give me any. This is my first accident ever and i was a bit shaken up and felt a right pillock at the same time. However i did take pictures of his damage and mine. Fortunately i looked inside his van and saw a passenger. Now when he got out of his van he immediately said we would have to go through insurance i said why i've only broken a lens i'll pay for the damage then he said well theres the bumper and the rear door as well. Now this exchange had happened before he even got to the back of his van to inspect the damage which i thought was suspicious. Anyway we went on our separate ways. I notified my insurance company of the accident and i also told them i had broken a lens but i wasn't sure i had done the other damage he was claiming. They told me don't worry we can get someone to inspect it for us. So i didn't worry. I was asked if i wished to be kept informed of what was happening which i said yes. I also told them i didn't wish to make a claim for my number plate.Just after Xmas i was contacted by my insurers telling me that they had received personal injury claims for 6 people!! I told them it was rubbish there were'nt 6 people in the van. I had an insurance fraud investigator come to my house copied all of my documents including service history, all mot's both parts of my driving licence and took a statement from me and also took the pictures i had taken. I never heard another thing until i got my insurance renewal at the end of FEB my insurance had trebled and i lost all my NCB. I queried this witrh my insurance company and found out the claim was for 33400 approx for the damage and the personal injury claims and it turns out they had paid out on the damage. i asked them if they had checked the damage and they said no he had claimed damage of 3500 plus hire of another vehicle. I askede them why they had paid out when i had already queried the damage in the first place. they couldn't answer me. They are now saying they have requested information from the 3rd party i.e. asked for id of the 6 people and that request has been ignored they say they have received a medical report for 1 person.
I asked why my insurance was so high seeing as it hadn't been settled and was obviously fraud and they said there was nothing they could do until it was settled which could be days, weeks, months or years. I have been left feeling very frustrated and very disillusioned with my company who are supposed to be looking after my interests.
Please any advice woudl be greatly appreciated i don't know how this works and short of shouting at somone i don't know where to turn.
Sorry for the ramble :T

Was the other vehicle a mini bus?0

No it was a transit van. I have pointed out to my insurance company that he shouldn't have had 5 people in the van. Even though I know there wasn't anyway.0

.... i lost all my NCB. I queried this witrh my insurance company and found out the claim was for 33400 approx .....
Whatever the cost of the claim, you should not lose all your NCD over a single claim.
Assuming you had in 5 or more years NCD at the start of the policy year, and this was your only claim, then you should have 3 years NCD at renewal.
(Only if you had 2 or less years at the start should you lose it all).
Check your policy wording about what happens to your NCD after a claim and if they haven't acted in line with the policy get a complaint in!
You don't have to renew with this company, so use the MSE guide to find a better deal.0 -
