Sorry to 'hijack' this thread, but does anyone know if Office 97 will work in Vista? We have the full business edition here (legit) and use all parts of it. It runs happily under XP Home.

    Many thanks

    Janet

I'm using 2003 on Vista without any problems, so I would assume that 2007 would be fine fwiw...
  • Office 97 is the one prior to 2003 and i don't think it will work.

They said Office 97, not 2007. So the correct answer is that MS only vouch for 2002 and higher being compatible and they no longer support 97. So basically it might work but even if it does don't expect it to work well. With something as old as 97 you're actually better off getting openoffice.

Just a hint - I installed the Microsoft Office 2007 trial on my Vista PC which saved by default as .docx - once the trial expired I then switched to openoffice but found that I couldn't open any of the .docx files. So I had to fiddle around with another trial to convert all the .docx files to .doc

My solution was to change options in Word 2007 to save as a "Word 1997-2003 Document (.doc)". Nice try Microsoft :rotfl:
