    I've been Money Tipped!
If you are thinking of not locking a case look at your holiday insruance policy, many will not cover luggage if it is not locked.

I use TSA combination locks all the time, US and RoW.

I find this hard to believe. As you say that many companies will not cover you if your case is not locked, would you care to quote one that does not so I can read the T&Cs.
  • Always lock your checked in luggage!

Most airlines (at keast major ones do)would ask if you pack the luggage yourself and did not have other people do it for you. The reason is the same as pad-locking your checked in luggage. Aside from preventing theft, it is also to prevent people to slip 'things' in your luggage and hope that you'll carry it out of the airport for them.

Always lock you luggage, and if there are side pockets that you can't lock, always check them for 'things of unknown origin' as soon as you get it off the baggage claim. And report to security if you do find any (let's hope not). Try to keep it empty and clear so it is easy for yourself to perform a quick check.

It is a cheap and safe method to keep safe your things and yourself and it is also very easy to do. Even more so if you are travelling to countries like HongKong or China or Malaysia or other Asia countries where carrying drugs bring capital punishment.

Also, try not to carry things for other people in which the contents you have no knowledge of.

    Travel Safe then!

    ALWAYS LOCK YOUR LUGGAGE

As said above, at this time especially, you never know what can be added to it once it´s out of your sight.

Yes, unscrupulous people can have duplicate keys etc but they would usually go for the easy option, ie an unlocked case.
No I don´t know of any incidents (so far) where this has happened but there´s always a first time, so why take the chance with your safety or that of others

I read in a magazine to use a paperclip if you didn't manage to get a padlock as if someone was trying to get into your case it would take them a bit of time to undo the paperclip from the zips.
I managed to forget to put a lock on my daughters case last year when we returned to tenerife, when we got back we couldn't find our case at the baggage reclaim, due to the fact that a man in the distance was opening up my kids case to see if it was his. (although my name was on it)
So now I double check that I have a lock on my case

    Hi there

There's been various postings on locks and TSA locks in particular.
I always use TSA locks when I travel to the States, although my holidays are over for this year unfortunately!
TSA locks are not available everywhere and they are more expensive than other locks. My advice to anyone wanting to buy a TSA lock is to check out tripneeds.com . I posted this tip before, they seem to be the cheapest for combination TSA locks. The ones I bought were £3.69 and they were cable TSA locks. That website also has 4-dial ones at a cheap price also.
Someone before said that Matalan and Asda sell TSA locks for around £2, but these are key locks not combination ones. Not sure if they still sell them, though. I hope this helps.
