Look at this link and then click on 'PIP - a guide to making a claim'

In short - if his only disability is his ankles - if most days he cannot walk 20m without severe pain or discomfort - he would be entitled to the high-rate mobility of PIP.

I'd endorse pmlindyloo's advice to consult the Disability Rights UK guide, which is free to download.

You may also find this Youreable thread (click) interesting, which is information on my PIP claim and suggestions on the PIP process.

If anyone wants to claim PIP, I would suggest, for anyone not experienced, they pay the fee (£20), and look at Benefit and Works.*

There you will get expert advice and guidance, and although other sites, such as Yourable, are nice enough sites, they contain so much incorrect information, because they have comparatively people actually using it, and no one with much experience moderating it, it's hard to know what to take notice of and what to ignore.

*I have no connection whatsoever with B&W, just feel it's the best advice site around.

You can tell a lot about a woman by her hands..........for instance, if they are placed around your throat, she's probably slightly upset. ;)

But you can get a lot of the information for free elsewhere online.

Well here's a FREE assessment for PIP on the Benefits and Works website:

    http://www.benefitsandwork.co.uk/pip/indexxx.php

The only other thing that I would add is that getting someone experienced in the application process is extremely helpful. CAB is an obvious one but is overstretched.

I think it would be very useful to have a list of organisations who provide that kind of assistance.

Anyone know of any other than CAB?

Your local council should have a welfare rights department. And DIAC / DIAL.

I accept your point of view about Youreable, but in this case, I'm linking to information I wrote personally, most of which is based (with links) on other sources, mainly the primary sources of legislation and information on gov.uk.

I know that Youreable currently lacks a critical mass which can allow errors to go unchecked, but quite a few people have read through the material in that thread and I've corrected errors where they have been pointed out.

I'm one of a small number who currently has a PIP decision, and one of an even smaller number who has recent experience of both DLA and PIP. I have studied law at university. I wanted to try to offer that experience to others here.

Of course, no one person has a monopoly on truth, there are others in this forum far more qualified than I (in every sense) and any advice stands or falls by its accuracy and utility. There are always different approaches to take and respect always has to be earned.

I'll gladly accept criticism of the content I've written, but I feel that the material I linked to is being criticised because of where it was first posted, not what is in it. An awful lot of work went into researching and writing that series of posts, in the hope it would help others. I cannot now undo where it is posted, much as I would have likely made a different choice in retrospect. At least, unlike a blog of unverified accuracy, people can respond to it directly without me having editorial control of the comments.

Lin - maybe I'm misunderstanding, but I really am beginning to wonder if I have to prove myself to you in some sort of way for you to stop warning against my posts. If so, I have absolutely no idea what it is I'm supposed to do to earn your respect and how I can do it within the forum rules which require a degree of anonymity. For example, I can't PM you a link to my university certificates, as they have my name on them. In any event, merely possessing qualifications means very little - sometimes it means I write a better grade of garbage.

I'm close to a decision to stop posting in this forum and leave helping others to those with higher post counts.

If I'm getting the wrong end of the stick, I apologise - it is hard to judge emotions sometimes in a text based medium. No disrespect is intended to Lin or anyone - I'm just trying to judge what is best for other forum members. If my contributions are so unwanted here that other people are having to find the time to warn against them, it's clearly a waste of everyone's time for me to continue posting here.

I am listening for further feedback, but understand if none is forthcoming.
  • With regards to My own circumstances I have read the links and have had advice from youreable re PIP and they have been very helpful! I am also a member of Benefits and works and They too have helpful information Although I find their strict limit on when you can post and when you receive answers a little frustrating! I have also used a couple of Face book groups that are specifically for advice and support and Benefit Answers Who are very quick to answer by e mail Free of charge! I also keep an eye on this Forum but it can be a little annoying trying to get past The odd Troll who pops up! I think in these times it is wise to have the opportunity to discuss and get information and advice from a variety of sources! So do not limit Your self to one group or forum and always try and do Your own research!

Think you should just keep posting , as a lot of the info you've posted is very helpful. You'll always find a lot of different opinions on MSE as it's such a large forum. It's one of the things I like I like about the forum, so wouldn't take it personally..

I was helping a relative with an ESA claim a couple of years ago and joined the B&W site as I kept seeing it being mentioned by people on various forums, and neither of us knew much about the process.

I didn't find anything more helpful or illuminating on there , than from reading various threads on forums. So didn't renew the membership when the year was up. Suppose it might be helpful to someone who wants to use a single site as a reference point and is happy to accept its limitations.

    Anyway Mr Lawnmower keep posting
