If homeowners went to battle against renters who would win

The renters will have the early advantage, the owners will do anything to avoid getting into a conflict, as they would have to declare it to buyers when they come to sell.
The owners will have a distinct disadvantage during the battle as they will be weighed down by their large mortgages, but as the battle heats up, their true strength will come from having something to fight for.
A lot will depend on if the landlords are prepared to stand with their tenants or stand against them as property owners.
Ultimately though, the owners will always be able to win, as soon as it looks like all is lost, they will be able to temp renters to switch sides in droves with just a small drop in asking prices. Where as the owners will never willingly switch sides, many would sooner burn their house to the ground than end up as a tenant in it.

Didn't the Morlocks eat the Eloi? And the Eloi had to march into the Morlock caverns in a hypnotic trance when the siren went off.

Are your descendants going to have to wander blindly into new build BTL estates on rent day to collect their rent but actually be eaten by feral renters?

Depends on what kind of battle.

I suppose the owners on average probably have more money so would be able to afford, uh, battle gear.

Obviously in simple fisticuffs the renters, who must be, what, say over ten years younger in average, would prevail fairly easily.

George Foreman was 45 when he made world champion.

I am not sure how he would have fared against his 25 year old self though, or at what point he stopped renting.

Maybe his anger from 45 years of renting that inspired him to win.

Floridaman I have just seen the thread in question:

    https://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/discussion/4915936

It is true, they did taunt you mercilessly; and with pictures.

But try and rise above their jibes. Show the world that renters can maintain with dignity and be content with their lot.

One day the tables will turn on the boomers who wronged you, like they say; he who last laughs last lasts the longest.

Well this is a funny thread...

What is the fight about?, are you fighting me to win my property, or if you win the fight do you get to move in...or is it just some kind of fight in the middle of the street for something to do??

Either way I will win..and i'm old I would imagine in your eyes, 5ft nothing, and a chick.....however i'm a feisty mare, used to do kick boxing, and just hate it when people pick on me for no reason other than their own shoite.

So once i've got you in a headlock with my legs if you are lucky and beg I will let you go...if not....you get to pay my mortgage and do my job for the next year provided I haven't grabbed a knife and slit your throat you idiot.....lol.

You really shouldn't get so wound up with things on the internet and forums....lol.

I do MMA but I'm always mindful that employing dirty fight tactics as I learned in Krav Maga would probably win the day. If you get me in a head lock with your legs, I still have thumbs to shove into eyes and dangly bits.

No they won't, it is disputes with neighbours that you have to declare, the tenants will be long and gone.

Personally I think the LLs would win, because it is the tenants that need somewhere to live.

But I shall reiterate what I have said before. Private rented property provides a service. Even as a LL, I have rented property as a short term solution when my job has meant that I've had to move.

The problem is the government/State don't build council houses anymore for people who can't afford to buy and that they let unfettered mass immigration in, when we already having a shortage of housing and high unemployment.

Private rented should be seen as a convenient short term solution, before buying or getting a council house.

In the Future ? If H G Wells novel, the time machine is anything to go by, we may well see it again. I think there is a real possibility that the renter will de-evolve into the Morlock.

If HPI continues in the manner it has over the past 15 years, we could well see the situation where the only way to own property is to inherit it. If this happens it will likely increase the inter breeding between homeowners trying to preserve the family wealth. Eventually the homeowners will evolve into the Eloi, while the renter excluded from the superior gene pool of the Eloi will become the Morlock.

I know that this post is more than a little tongue in cheek (and this probably isn't the thread for a serious comment anyway!), but there is actually an element of truth to the principle of it. While obviously you wont get "de-evolution", the idea that another 20-30 years of HPI like the last 20-30 will lead to a clearly polarised society, with a sharp divsion between those who own "housing wealth" and those who do not. In that scenario, it will indeed become the case that the only way for people on ordinary incomes to own property will be to inherit it, so the ability for ordinary people to obtain the security of home ownership will be more or less removed within another generation.

I don't think there is any real argument against the assertion that such an outcome is very divisive socially. Personally, I wouldn't want to live in a society that was dividded in that way (and I say that as someone very much on the "right" side of that divide from a self interested perspective). So for me, the threat of that kind of division is exactly why a key priority of government should be to make sure that we don't have another 20-30 years of HPI like the last 20-30. No chance of that happening anytime soon though imho :(.

    Oo...I haven't got dangly bits.

And if you are fighting dirty...there's always a good chop to the Adams apple.
Yep...still at it, working out how to retire early.:D....... Going to have to rethink that scenario as have been screwed over by the company. A work in progress.

You can mock this thread as much as you like but this is a genuine question.

Ok if I wasn't to mock it I will give you a really short scenario...

SO...you have had a fight and won your house.

Three months later...another guy comes along and wants it, what makes you anymore deserving than the next person who has say 'got' your house.

Animal Farm comes to mind with your attitude, have a read of it or watch the film.
