Hi all,Just after a bit of advice. My brother lived with his partner in a home he bought in 2001. The mortgage was in his name. Fast forward 13 years and they have split up. The woman left him to go back to her ex. My brother and this woman had no kids and never married. As ai said my Brothers name was on the mortgage hers was not. She did set up a standing order to Natwest so she could pay a share of the mortgage each month (£500). The remaining mortgage balance is £90,000.So they never had children together or married. The mortgage is in his name.Is the woman entitled to half if my brother sells up? What is the usual outcome here? Thank you

From bits and pieces I've read on there, I'd say there is a good chance she'd be entitled to something, given that she's contributed directly to the mortgage (rather than, for example, her having the household bills in her name as her form of contribution) - and there can be times when betterment can count (for example, if she's helped decorate the house which has added value to it) too. But how much she'd be entitled to is far beyond me/my knowledge!0 -
As she has paid half thr mortgage, she'll probably be able to claim half the equity increase from when she started paying half the mortgage.
I.e. if she moved in 2003 and it was worth £100K and it's now worth £200k, then she's likely to be able to claim £55k.
I have a friend that did this as by living with her ex and not buying her own home, she'd lost out financially.Should've = Should HAVE (not 'of')
