Basically if the person claiming pension credit is also getting an addition for severe disability on their pension credit payment they will lose this if someone receives carer's allowance for looking after them.

As regards council tax benefit it depends if the person claiming carer's allowance is living with the person they are caring for - if that person is in receipt of Attendance Allowance or PIP living component, DLA care component or is blind then council tax benefit (of the person being cared for) is unaffected.

And you want to claim Carer's Allowance for them?

First of all do you meet the criteria for claiming Carer's Allowance? Do you/will you care for them 35 hours a week?

Next, are you receiving any benefits?

I only asked because Age UK said not to bother applying but gave no real reason
