Cancel Bt Broadband But BT Sport Charging me

Hi

My Dad changed his broadband line rental from BT to sky around Xmas time. At the time i was using his free BT Sport on my Sky account. The other day i notice that i could still get BT sport, when I looked into it i relished that BT Sport was not automatic canceled when the other services were.I looked online for my Dad and it says i he owes £36.50 including late fees etc.

I have a few questions??

Can they really start charging you for a free service without informing you beforehand?

Why didn't they contact my dad after the first month when payment was not made?

Do i have a leg to stand on if i complain?

I have rang up the other day and made sure i cancel BT Sport.

Any help would be appreciated.

Richard

BT Sport is only free with BT BB. So you'll have to pay it. The Sky box is a separate service which should have been cancelled separately at the time of the BB cancellation.
  • When the person who ordered the BT Sport via Sky they would have been told it would cost them £12 SD or £15 HD / month if you did not have BT line + BB.

Unfortunate its gone via your sky box but you were not told about it, as above though. BT would not offer something FOC without whoever having other products with the company.

I was quite surprised about this too - just started a switch from BT to sky and expected the BT sport would just terminate automatically. I did however receive a letter yesterday from BT stating that unless I cancelled the BT Sport before the switchover day they would start charging me £12 (or whatever the price is) per month.

I also discovered after starting the switch that me taking up BT Sport 10 months ago actually tied me in to a new 12 month contract with them - I am sure that wasn't explicitly mentioned at the time so I incorrectly thought my minimum period was up :( (no big deal fortunately, about 17 quid early termination charge to pay)
