Will my partners credit score be affected by my DMP

Options
I took out a DMP 4 years ago and have been paying it regularly out of my single bank account. I have moved in with my partner now and the mortgage and bills are all in his name apart from the Council Tax which are in Joint names. I also have a second bank account with the same bank that I used for other bills and my partner has now been added to it to make it a joint account to pay the house bills out of. My question is this. Will my partner be affected when he now applies for credit as we are now linked with the council tax/bank account even though It's my debt and I had it before we met. Also if it will be, I obviously can't do anything about the Council Tax being in both names but would having separate bank accounts be better for when he applies for any future credit. He has a really good rating and I don't want my poor credit rating to damage him, especially when he goes to apply for another mortgage deal when the fixed rate ends next year. Or will me being at the same address with a DMP affect him regardless? Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks

Any joint financial products will link you.

So If I remove him from the joint account and we have seperate bank accounts, will that mean he will be ok for future credit or will us living at same address still link us?

He will also need to file a notice of disassociation.

    The address doesn't link you.

Sorry just one more thing. Once the joint account is closed and he applies to disassociate himself, I noticed on the experian form that it asks what his relationship is with me. Is it ok to still put partner. Will they still accept a dissasociation if we still live together but want to show our finances are not linked?

That's fine. It's the owning of joint accounts that links you financially, not your relationship.

It is a risk. If you are still a partner, the expectation is that you will have links, so if you declare disassociation and they are suspicious, you will be hit with a CIFAS flag and this could be worse.

It might be better to let any bad stuff expire than try to manipulate the outcome.

You sure about that? It seems to me that two people could live together without opening any joint accounts and no such association will exist.

Common sense will be applied when making financial judgements. With financial transactions its transparency which builds confidence and trust. Any actions to the contrary merely raise concern and suspicion. Resulting in more questions than answers (figuratively that is as they actually won't be asked).
