Major Car Insurance Problem + Anxiety :(

I have a quick query over insurance. I have exams and its making me really anxious and im having difficulty concentrating.
So this is what happened.
10 days ago i had an accident in asda car pack. I hit someone's car and caused a large dent in a guys car. (my car had minimal damaged)
At the time i knew whatever happened i was gonna have to shell out my excess ( and loose my ncb) whether i was deemed to be at fault or both parties were deemed. So to make it go away i just said i'll pay for the damage. We exchanged numbers.
Later the next day he messaged me saying he would take it to the garage in he next few days to get a quote.
Its not been 9 days since that message and i haven't heard anything back.
My main concerns are 1) he will come back to me with a ridiculous bill. 2) if he does will my insurance cover it as i just noticed in the T and C that i should have contacted them within 48hrs which i still haven't done out of fear of having y contact terminated..

ring them up now and tell them you were too scared to report it thats why youre reporting it late
also you dont need to pay any excess if you dont pay for your car to be repaired0 -
ok. sounds like a good idea.
when i go on sites like money supermarkets it asks me whether i have been in accidents, claims, incidents in the past 5 years. What would my claim come under if we settle in privately (e.g not at fault , at fault)?0 -
You just need to think about the question being asked, sometimes they are asked separately.
Yes you have had an incident/accident, no you haven't had a claim.
The excess is purely concerned with repairs to your own car.
Unfortunately, even if you don't lose any no claims, your premium will be loaded because statistically you are now seen as being more likely to have another accident.
It would still be an at fault accident.0 -

You really need to ask if you hitting another car still counts as an accident if you pay for it privately?
Claim for both vehicles - pay excess, loose NCD, almost certainly increased premiums
Claim for just their vehicle - no excess, loose NCD, almost certainly increased premums
Pay privately but declare accident - no excess, no lose of NCD, probably increased premiums and repairs to pay
Pay privately but dont declare accident - no excess, no lose of NCD, no increased premiums and repairs to pay plus if your fraud is detected then insurance voided and premiums for all insurance for you increased for life
Of cause with the last option you ahve to consider how likely insurers are to find out.0 -
thanks for the help guys. Few more questions,
1) is there a document out there which i could have them sign
2) what stop thems coming back in a few months with a personal injury claim?0 -
You can ask/get them to sign a receipt "in full and final settlement", though if there is any chance of personal injury then they obviously won't sign it!
You cannot really expect them to sign a document promising not to inform their insurer (it's a breach of their and your contract with the insurer if the incident is not reported).
You could end up with a bigger than expected bill over this - when you accept liability and agree to pay, you aren't just responsible for the garage bill.
You are responsible for all the other side's costs including the repair, and further damage found when the car is stripped down during the repair, any hire car costs, loss of earnings etc as well as compensation for injury as already mentioned.
You can let your insurer deal with any claim against you and if cost effective after the matter is concluded you can reimburse your insurer and get any lost NCD reinstated.0 -
have you checked the other car had insurance held upon it ?
You can do this via MID.
This could be the reason for the other driver not wanting to involve insurance.Be happy...;)0 -
I would but i dont actually know the number plate. All we did was saw phone numbers.
do you know if there is a document ready made?0 -
also would i have to pay my excess if there is no damage to my car (with admiral)0
