How to find out previous phone providers.

Hi All,
I have a sticky problem! I need to get a new phone and Broadband provider as my current contract is coming to an end and will no longer be competitive. The problem is I owed money to a previous phone line provider and I can't remember who it was. If I apply to that provider for a new phone line will they then try to recover the previous debt which is from over 6 years ago. The money was owed due to a dispute with them which we could not come to an agreement upon. Does anyone know how to find out who a previous phone line provider was without actually phoning and asking them?

Not a chance - but as you probably were defaulted for non payment, why not check your credit file to see, they'd you'll know. It only goes back 6 years.
