People who moan about the finance price half way through the term are expecting "Captain Finance" to step forward and give them an easy way out of the finance deal...which in the eyes of the law is not going to happen

They signed the dotted line, They had a chance to do the calculations in cooling off period, they didnt, you cant blame anyone for that, only yourself.

If I was going to offer advice on what to do it wouldnt really be "good" advice, they could ring up the finance company explain their concerns but I bet you all the finance company would do is say "We can sort you out a new deal of £80pm but will be over a 4 year period" so your no better if not worse off, if you think they are going to start knocking money off or say "Youve paid enough now we will end it early" then we all know this is not going to happen
but this is the same old sanctimonious I'm better than you BS that plagues these boards!

I don't doubt you'd never get into that situation yourself and that you're so much better than the people you pick on etc etc and it's boring me to bloody sleep.... but point I wish to pull you up on is captain finance. people simply don't expect a magic puff of smoke mid term in a bad loan after moaning and someone like dynamo magically appearing and waving away their bad decision. They know they've made it, they know they've got to live with it. For the record I took out a so so car loan a few years back, wasn't great, wasn't as bad as this one but I budgeted it in and lived with my choice. What I didn't do is bring my self righteousness to the forum and start berating others for their said bad decisions. People make mistakes, you've made mistakes. You'll make more mistakes, and when you do the last person you'll want to talk to is someone like you saying I told you so on one hand and criticising you on the other. What is the point in telling someone something they already know ? does it help you sleep better at night?

I think the point we "sanctimonious" are making is that the fault here lies with the O/P for not checking in the first place.

They have come on here talking about "extortionate" and "been ripped off" and "a disgrace".

Thats someone wanting to pin the blame elsewhere.

You're right the damage has been done, but the O/P would be getting far more constructive replies if they'd come on here and said "i've just been doing my sums here and it turns out when i knee jerked into buying a car three years i got a really crap deal, what are my options here to minimise further costs?"

This is a money saving forum, not a "who can i blame for this and how can i make them pay" forum
they're obviously annoyed at themselves because they've made a crap decision, but as you say this is a money saving forum, about money; in monetary terms how many pence do you think this person will get off this loan if he/she blamed you, me , or aliens from the planet Jupiter?

granted the OP is annoyed but do you think telling OP it's his/her fault is going to be sensational news to them?

!!!!!! they know its their fault. last thing you want when you've made a rubbish decision is the I told you so/I'm better than you brigade turning up like vultures to rub in the misery

show some humanity. you haven't got the crap loan have you? and presumably you've made some mistakes in your own lives?
  • What is the point in telling someone something they already know ?

The same reason why they are asking a question they already know the answer to.

We seem to be going round in circles here
does it help you sleep better at night?

I dont normally have trouble sleeping at night, but if you could do something about the bloody magpies in the morning it would be appreciated.

    opinion/picking on, two different things
I am allowed my opinion, whether you like that opinion is your problem
If you come on an "Open Forum" to ask a question, be prepared to get the negative and positive comments, if you come with pure ignorance playing the blame game, well I aint going to welcome you with open arms

but do you feel BETTER for telling this person how rubbish they are? If so, take a look at that because just my opinion - which I'm also entitled to - it's not healthy to do it - as stated, the OP's statement is going to do that monthly for you on your behalf if you wish and if not it'll doubtless be the timely reminder of what a bad decision that was, no further action required from you....., you haven't got the crap loan, you realise that you can't change anyone else in this universe, only yourself

my cats would eat the magpies no problem .
  • Lets just agree to dis agree and move on,
my cats would eat the magpies no problem .
Certainly better than my dopey dog, every morning he thinks he's going to get one..and fails

The point being they came on here looking to find ways to "punish" the people who sold them the loan / car.

They need to realise that is a waste of their time and effort, and they need to focus themselves on ridding themselves of this ASAP. They have various options as to how they can do that.

THATS the point. Until they grasp that, then we are all wasting our time.

OR should be humour the O/P and tell them to pursue those who sold him the loan through the courts?

Lets be honest the O/P has !!!!!!ed off now because they arent getting the answers they want to hear - that its someone elses fault and that someone else should "pay".

And another thing - have a look at ANY debt advice thread / board / forum on here or elsewhere and its not about trying to find someone else to blame because you racked up a £30K credit card bill, its about how to resolve it as quickly and cheaply as possible.

OK - so the o/p paid over the odds for finance - but its controlled through monthly payments and they have a car for it. Even if they cant get a solution to it realistically all they've paid is a few thousand more over six years than they might otherwise have done. Lets be honest you could buy a brand new focus and suffer more than that in depreciation, but noone goes round blaming Ford for selling them something that depreciates.

no but I blame ford for making almost every part of the engine out of cheap plastic that breaks, and for making it easier to change a wheel on some models than change a headlight. You can tell me serves me right for buying a ford and that I'm stupid, but I can tell you that if I buy another ford after writing this post, it is then I am stupid!

everyone makes mistakes, everyone learns from them. My advice to anyone who has got out a crap loan would be pay as fast as possible, NOT, "I told you so!"

    cheers

!!!!!!. Get over yourself will you?

No one said "i told you so!". We told the O/P it was THEIR problem and THEY needed to accept that, rather than continuing to blame someone else.

Its the first step of any problem resolution - accept its YOUR problem.

Really not going to humour someone who wanted us to agree THEIR problem was someone elses fault
  • Is this still going on?

There have been umpteen threads form those who go from one financial car wreck to another, you can't !!!!! foot around telling people there there it'll be alright, whilst people continue to sign up for rip of finance deals the sharks will prosper.

I haven't yet read a thread where acme garage unlimited (apologies if this garage exists and they don't extort customers) held a gun to someone'e childs head and forced the punter to sign some dodgy finance rip off.

What these people really need to do is to get away from finance completely and buy only what they can afford outright, you can get perfectly good cars for £500, run it for 12 months, rinse and repeat.

Charity shop income? Don't shop in Harrods.
