HELP with birthday present for 65 yo

My dear partner turns 65 on Tuesday but he's SO difficult to buy for and I really wanted to give a special present for my pension age chap.

He's not into clothes or eating out and doesn't need anything for his flat. The only thing he loves is music but his tastes are so diverse (anything to do with the 60s is always a favourite) that I couldn't begin to guess who he would like to go and see. He has a little music studio in a spare bedroom but its full of equipment I don't even know what it does.(you can tell I can't play a note!)

I have racked my brain for a month and feel like a total rubbish "girl" friend (well, I am SO much younger at 58!)

Any suggestions (keep it clean) welcome :D

A short city break linked with music he likes? So if he liked Beatles go to Liverpool and do all the tours etc. and spoil him. Think experiences are easier to plan and buy than 'things' sometimes, particularly when people don't need anything.
Depends on budget too. Good luck!

I bought OH an 'experience' for his 60th. He could choose from a number of 'manly' things and picked a flight in an ancient plane.

It was over London, do we had to have two nights in a hotel in Duxford, for the RAF Museum, hitch was enjoyable in itself.

Thanks for the suggestions. Yes, we've done the trip to Liverpool and visited John and Paul's houses (EXCELLENT tours by the way, done by National Trust Guides)

Unfortunately don't have a whole weekend, just one night, so it will have to be a gift. I'll have a look at the Experience trips and see what they offer.

    Cheers everyone

    Try this http://www.daysoutguide.co.uk/british-music-experience

You could combine it with a weekend away.

If you want an object do you think he would like a theremin?

A group of friends bought my DH this lovely DAB radio for his 50th. It connects to bluetooth too so can play all his music on his iPod and phone as well as all the radio channels.

Yes it's Skegness, don't know how far you are from there but my OH and I go regularly. Loads of 60's music nights with groups of the day (I'm 69, OH almost 68, we are allowed to call them groups not bands!)

Take in a B&B or hotel, there will be low prices at this time of year and Lincolnshire is the driest county in Britain, that's official. High pressure over us for at least the next week, maybe longer. One tip: do not choose a seat in the front stalls, seats there are cheaper because they are uncomfortable. There is a seating plan on the website.
I think this job really needs
    a much bigger hammer.

What about tickets for a gig he'd enjoy?
  • Alikay, that radio is so nice!
