I would like to get dd a mobile phone but do not want her to have internet access - is it possible to get a nice mobile with a camera, but no internet capability?

Im not convinced parental controls are good enough to filter absolutly everything and think it is porably better 9for my peace of mind) if we simply give her no internet access at all.

she will mostly use the phone for texting, calling us when she's on her way home from school and taking photos - i could look at getting her a seperate camera but lets be honest who carries a seperate camera around with them and its just another thing for her to have to look after.

thanks in advance

I think most would have basic internet tbh (but I could be wrong), however, you might be able to get one without a wifi feature, so that way you could just disable the internet settings on the phone.

However, I would imagine that these phones will not have great cameras in terms of resolution.

What ever phone you get - make sure you are on a PayGo deal with a limit. That way she won't be able to run up any stupid sized bills (whether intentionally or inadvertently) and she will learn the art of budgeting her use - eg if she blows the whole months worth in the first week then she has to wait until the next month or pay more.
Contract phones seem like a good idea but kids can ramp up really big bills and it will be you who has to pay - you won't be able to plead ignorance as it will be you on the contract, not her.
Never under estimate the power of stupid people in large numbers

...or call the network and ask them to disable mobile data permanently on their side.

From a teenager's point of view, I can't imagine that a camera function would be of any use without 3G/internet access: they seem to spend most of their lives exchanging pictures. You might just a well give them a dumbphone with text and calls only.

My view on this is that internet access has far more benefits than dangers. It would be a shame to disable it on her phone. I don't know about all the networks but giffgaff and Three have pretty aggressive filtering in place. You need to prove you are over 18 to access any inappropriate sites.

With the internet on the phone you can use it to track them.

Is this to minimise the chances of horrendous bills or is it to prevent access to undesirable sites? If only the former, WiFi access would presumably be acceptable.
