Item received in disgusting condition

    If you are planning to leave the seller a neg then do not mention feedback in any message to the seller.

    If you do go through the dispute process, do not mention that in the feedback that you leave either.

    Otherwise the seller may be able to get the feedback removed.

    'child's toy' - so am I wrong to expect that you intended to wash them and give them a good scrub before passing them over to a child as you've no idea where they might have been, in which case removing dust and mould as part of the process does not seem to me to be a big deal.

    Of course I would've cleaned them but seriously, mould actually growing on one? There's no way I'd have paid a single penny for these toys, they're fit for the bin. If the seller had described them as being mouldy I wouldn't have even considered buying them.

    I think this is a slight difference between cleaning a used item you intend to give to your kids and having to de-mould an item you intend to give to your kids.

    I hope that the seller made a genuine mistake because I really do wonder about the kind of person who would happily sell children toys that have mould on them.

    Open a case. Suggest SNAD, and insist the seller pays for return postage. Do not send until the refund is in your PayPal account. If you do get a refund, don't leave feedback.
    Don't cancel the case until you get this refund, but remember a neg is harsh for a seller and if they are reasonable, you should be too.

    Op. Open a case for SNAD. The seller has 8 days to respond, it sounds as though they will press the 'return for a full refund' button.

    Your options are:
    1. Return them (tracked) at your cost for a full refund of your original payment.
    2. Return them (tracked) and ask the seller in the dispute to pay for the return - they cannot be forced to do this, but if you ask and they decline within the case, you should then ring Ebay and ask them for a prepaid tracked label as otherwise you will be left out of pocket. More often than not Ebay either make a reimbursement for your returns postage or they give you a label.
    3. Do nothing re the return and take the full loss.

    Whatever you choose, do not expect a refund without a return unless the seller does this voluntarily. Anyone giving the advice to 'not send until you have the refund in your Paypal account' is completely wrong and it's the easiest way to lose the case if you have one open.

    Thanks for the advice. I opened a case and included photos of the mouldy toy. Just for the record it's full on grey fluffy mould with spores, not just a few mildew spots. The seller has reluctantly offered a refund but not responded to the photos. I'll ask for return postage to be paid by the seller. I'll call eBay if they refuse. Thanks for all this info, I really appreciate it.

    Did they come in a jiffy type bag? I have received stuff before where the inside of the bag has become damaged and the padding has ended up all over the contents, looks like grey dust and fluffy bits. Just a thought.

    Definitely not fluff, they arrived in a plastic post bag and you can see the mould actually growing on the toy, it looks just like the grey/green mould you get on cheese!

    My mistake, they're not a business seller. Their user name and logo just make them look like they're a professional shop when actually they're no different to anyone else on eBay.
