get of your high horse, if you practiced what you preached you would not imprison an animal period.

I compared fish with cats and dogs.

Football was an analogy, beginners don't get everything right. You take things in baby steps.

    Are you actually for real?

Nobody gets everything right as a beginner, but people who care and want to get it right don't ignore good advice from experts just because they don't feel like it or they get impatient!

I've never kept fish, but every time I've taken on a new kind of animal I'm not an expert on, there's been weeks or months of research and prep beforehand. That's just what you do if you truly want to be a responsible owner/keeper who cares about their pets' welfare.

I think you'd be better off with a nice photograph of some tropical fish with your attitude.

Have you considered seeing a mental health professional? Your attitude towards animals is a really quite concerning, as is your assumption that everyone else shares your opinions regarding animal cruelty. Treating animals inhumanely is wrong, and you are in the very small minority to not realise this.

I'm letting my anger calm down before i reply after that post from london Tiger.

I have done my very best to advise and help(as have others) but i may as well have saved my breath.

If i said what i truly feel i would be thrown off this site!!

I can't believe that anyone who had the intelligence to ask for advice before rushing in to getting an animal can turn around and ignore every bit of advice and just to what they wanted anyway.

What was the point in wasting everyone's time and effort just to ignore them?

You can speak for yourself when you say you are a beginner and that's how we all start and learn. I fully research every animal before I get it and make sure I provide what they need from the start.

I'm a beginner. I am going to make mistakes. None of you would have gone into this hobby if you hadn't made beginners mistakes and learnt along the way.

I would avoid fish suffering as much as I think is realistic but fish are not dogs or cats. Fish don't feel pain the same way mammels do.

You really are beyond belief  :wall:

My anger hasn't subsided completely but as the other posters have said what i am also feeling i will just add this.If you were to ask on the Fishkeeping site where everyone bends over backwards to help newcomers to the hobby, and usually after poor advice from many fish and pet shops ,they would be even more angry at your appalling attitude to making fish suffer.

Just because you don't see the point and have no patience ,it does not give you the right to knowingly cause suffering. And you are doing. You knew BEFORE you got the fish. Many people don't, as they trust the people in shops but after finding out what is the reason for their problems and obvious decline in their fish they go to great lengths to sort it out, including large water changes, testing the water with proper test kits, and even going straight back out and purchasing a much bigger tank.

But since you know best i won't bother any further.

My sentiments entirely. In fact I'm going to unsubscribe from this thread otherwise I may end up saying something that might get me PPRd or banned

I have a 150L tank with a small handful of platys in it.

It's one thing to put fish into an uncycled tank out of ignorance, but to do it intentionally is something else.

When I got my first tank almost ten years ago I did fishless cycling. Because I read up on it first and listened to the advice I was given. So no, I will stay up here on my 'high horse' thank you very much.

I'm sorry you don't 'like the idea' of fishless cycling. Keeping any living creature comes with responsibility and the fact that so many people don't want or care about that responsibility is one of the reasons the human race sucks.

Well said.So much more pleasure in something you have waited for, done correctly and know you have not caused any suffering.

When i first started out 27 years ago i sadly took notice of my father in law who had kept fish,on and off, for years.Basically he hadn't a clue,i hadn't know him long and i soon realised he didn't care.No internet in those days and few books. It wasn't until i was speaking to a company when i phoned up for goods that i was told where i was going wrong and from that day i made sure i got it right.I still feel bad now about the mistakes i made but things were different then. The hobby has evolved and there is no excuse for not researching it first.

Sadly there are still many pet shops and aquatics that give out terrible advice just to make a profit but looking on the internet for specific forums will always point you in the right direction. As you say,not knowing or being given the wrong advice is bad enough but to go ahead even when it has been explained is appalling.

Froglet, your advice is first class. I am thinking about keeping a small tank and I entirely take on board what you say about all the preparation. What are the best forums/sites for advice for a novice when the time comes? I also want to do thorough research and take notes before I even look for a tank.
