I'm a complete blond when it comes anything car related so just wanted check with people more in the know.
This morning I found what looked like hair coming out my exhaust (first thought was a neighbour had put something there) did a Google and found my exhaust needs replacing.
Should this have been picked up on an mot as I only had mine done just under 2 weeks ago?

If the exhaust wasn't holed or insecure and the car passed the emissions test then that is an MoT pass.
An MoT is a test of specific items for specific conditions.0 -
An MOT is only valid for the day it is in the test centre
Don't start going to the MOT station complaining that it should of been spotted,
Sounds like the padding in the baffles coming out, if the exhaust isnt leaking then its ok, the stuff coming out the exhaust is there to muffle sound, hence the word muffler in the states, wouldnt worry about it too much, certainly dont go to Kwik FIt, they'll sting you for a full system.0 -
The garage that did my mot is usually really good, just wanted to check it wasn't something they should have picked up.
I'm happy enough to go back to them to have the work done as I've never had a prob with them before.S.P.C member 1662 - target £3000 -
Had this happen on my wifes Megan, every so often id remove a load of hair like sound deadening material from the exhast pipe, i went through 2 MOT emissions tests with no problem, and was still coming out occasionally when we scrapped it when the ecu blew up0

Someones sniffing for compensation...
No the mot should not have spotted it. As previously stated the MOT only says the car met the minimum safety requirements on the day of the test.
Don't bother trying to claim a free exhaust replacement from the MOT tester, you've not got a leg to stand on.0 -
Whats the racial description got to do with a car ?Be happy...;)0

Did you have service or service and mot? The service should poss have picked it up. I had an issue with very squeaky brakes about 2 weeks after service and mot with my old car and initially they were very dismissive however when garage owner looked at it, he was not impressed and fixed it for free as he said it should have been picked up during the service. I can't remember precisely what the problem was though as have no idea about cars.0

Where did I say I was going to try and claim a replacement from the garage? All I asked was if it was something that should have been noticed, I never mentioned compensation and if you read my other reply you would see I'm happy to return to the garage that did the mot and for them to do the repair. I only asked due to the fact I've been ripped off in the past as I know nothing about cars.S.P.C member 1662 - target £3000 -

I've yet to see a service schedule that includes 'looking in the exhaust for hair'
