    You are a lodger so you don't have any real 'rights' and need to work these things out reasonably with your landlady.

    I always discuss these things with prospective lodgers up front. Basically I try and treat myself and my lodger(s) equally in that in the same way I might have friends staying now and then I'm fine with my lodgers g/f or friends staying over within reason (basically as long as they are staying only as a guest and have a home of their own as well - I'm not keen on people 'between' accommodation staying as that has led to them taking advantage in the past and basically staying/living for free until actually asked to leave)

    So sometimes my lodger ends up paying a share of the extra expense (hot water etc) of my guests and sometimes I end up paying a share of the extra expense of his guests.
