The look of them is enough to put most people off ;).

The look is Marmite. But this has an effect of depressing secondhand values to make them more affordable and better value.

    More what?

I drive a Cooper S - I could have got a lot of different cars for the money BUT I WANTED a Mini.

The OP was asking for advice about the model and any known faults - not an opinion on price.

    http://www.honestjohn.co.uk/carbycar/mini/clubman-r55-2007/?section=good

OP - have a look at this site - there are tabs at the top of the report for more info about models etc. happy hunting.

The OP said he was thinking of getting one for under 10k, what do you think? I answered the question, enough said! Like I said, if he wants more for his money, look at other cars! A reasonable opinion, you don't need to like it! ... Exactly why it's called an opinion
An opinion is just that..... An opinion

I'm on my 2nd Mini Clubman, love the shape, its different, and if you get one under 10k great, I would go for a petrol if you are doing less then 12k miles pa.

Thanks for all the interest. As you say there is a new model due we will wait a month or so and see if we can find a good one, might go for a test drive sooner though. HJ site good but not easy to understand which models to avoid. We do about 12k miles a year, much in town so I think petrol and not the Cooper one.
Interestingly the Cooper garage which always did the original Mini coopers was selling Smart cars a few years ago.
I had one of the original ones, 1959 model called a Mini Se7en, wonder what it would be worth now, I got £50 for it!

There were two models the Austin 7 and the Morris Mini Minor. Mini did not become a brand until well post RedRobbo and the collapse of British Leyland.
That gum you like is coming back in style.

Yes, I realise that now, it was an Austin Se7en, I kept the boot badge for a while but it is gone now. Sold it to buy a Jowet Jupiter for the summer, it cost a fortune, £75! Those were the days.
