212,000kWh over that period is not feasible, that's about 13 years of usage at the UK average. So I suspect the issue you have is an erroneous opening reading (or, less likely, a meter fault) The problem is of course that you have no evidence to back up your claim, and haven't taken any intermediate readings that would support a lower level of usage.
I'd invest in a meter test, as the cost of that (if it proves to be in tolerance) at about £60 is fairly minor compared to the alternative of an £8-9K bill.
If you didn't know where the gas meter was, how were you planning to turn the supply off in case of an emergency? No free lunch, and no free laptop0 -
Just a quick update - meter reading today is 85062, yesterday at the same time of day it was 85024, so I make that roughly 420kwh in a day, which as you say , seems a "bit" high. taht was 2 showers a bit of laundry and washing-up and heating.
I'm starting to think that maybe the meter is registering the landlord's part of the house, and I'm paying for her gas as well, whch would explain the readings.0 -
