Losing Virgin - what to do about email address?

Hi, I hope this is in the right place. I am about to finish up with my Virgin services, which means I will lose my virginmail, is there anyway to migrate it (I don't know if that is the right term) so that I can keep getting emails? I have other email accounts but I just wanted to see if there is a way to continue to receive the mail that goes there or will I have to contact everyone with a new address?

Once you finish with Virgin, then your Virgin email address will go as well. There is no way to migrate an email address like you can porting a telephone number. You will have to notify everyone of your new email address.

The real problem will be all the websites, services, forums etc that you've registered for with the current e-mail. Hope you've kept a note of them all

This doesn't really help you now but it might be something to think about in the future.

Years ago I set up a free, non ISP, email account purely for forums and website services etc. so that I wouldn't have the problem you face.

I also use a free program called KeePass, or in my case the Mac version KeePassX, to store the URLs and login details of all websites and forums. KeePass will also generate a very strong password for each site. It is capable of opening the webpage and auto typing in the ID and password details too.

It might seem long winded but it means I don't have to go through the pain you're currently going through and I'm not relying on easy to remember and break passwords for anything.

you can setup your virgin mail to forward all mail to another address.

This might remain active after you leave (as they dont always remove the actual account straight away).

In the future, it will be best not to rely on ISP emails, as its pretty common now for people to keep changing thier ISP.

I tried this when I left Virgin three years ago, but they completely closed my email account on the day I left. Nothing got forwarded and I couldn't even access my account online from the date I left.

I set up a Gmail account and have used it ever since, I would recommend Gmail to anyone. It's excellent and free!

I haven't been with Virgin since the days of dial-up and yet my email account still works so they do not seem very consistent.

I would also recommend Gmail or even Hotmail.

Same situation with me; still use it as one of my email accounts.

I can even still log into the virgin account website, even though I don't take any services.

I have still got all the email addresses I ever have, linked into my latest gmail one. You can usually open the mail on a web page, if you do not want to do a link, but you don't lose it really surely.

Yep, as it was dial-up they never know when you'll be back, paid for by the premium on the phone number.

OP should try to get a Virgin dial-up account to sustain the e-mail.
