Servicing Plans

Hello all,
I have just bought a 3 year old Corsa from a Pentagon dealership and have been offered a car servicing plan - first payment £15.32 and with a monthly payment of £14.78 over 5 years with a total payable amount of £843.00.
I have read a lot of reviews both for an against servicing plans - but I am still unsure whether it's worth doing or not. I trust these forums so thought I would post the question on here. What does everyone think? Should I just leave it and take my car to Halfords for a service every year? What are the pros and cons?
Thanks
Claire

Does the plan come with added extras like Free diagnosis, Collection & Delivery Wash & Vac, Free Bulb replacement0

Hi
I have a Corsa and have the service plan through Vauxhall for a similar cost. If you have a Vauxhall dealership nearby I'd recommend going through them as I personally think they are more reliable.
I find the service plans very helpful at managing funds as when it comes to MOT & Service time its already paid for (Unless you need anything extra done that is not included)0 -
Hi Car Complaints
It comes with -
• Free Alternative Transport*
• Free Puncture Repairs
• Free Mini Valet*
• Free Health Checks
• 10% Discount on all parts and accessories*
• 10% Discount on labour and parts for any additional work or repairs
The * is *subject to availability
Thanks

The diagnosis is what I was looking for and on a 3 year old car with a 5 year plan it may of been dare I say it worthwhile, without Diagnosis I wouldnt bother to be honest
Just do some simple maths and work out what the services will cost you over a 5 year period against what the plan is, but remember that MOT's, Brake Fluid changes, AIr Con Service are not included on that plan. They will try and upsell these to you at every given opportunity
10% discount on labour and parts means nothing from a Franchised Dealer including the discount you could still get your car fixed cheaper elsewhere
As for Halfords...No Comment

Hi Car Complaints,
Thanks for your reply and comments - what would your advice be then in regards to where to take it for a service? (Not Halfords I'm guessing!)
Thanks

Yes....and take my car to Halfords for a service every year?0 -

No, because Halfords Autocentres are she height. Find a good independent and take it there.
couldn't agree more0 -
Look for an independent Vauxhall repairer in your area and ring for a quote on certain items
Servicing
Cambelt
DIscs and Pads
Brake fluid changes
Then ring up Pentagon and ask them for their prices as a normal paying customer, just tell them you are thinking of buying a car and would like some prices for maintaining the car then weigh it all up and decide.
Personally god forbid I ever purchased a SP I would be more inclined to do it on an older car...but diagnosis must be in on that package or it would be a no go for me,
I certainly wouldnt do it for a new car.
Most franchised dealers offer this to "service" customers anyway
Free wash & Vac
Free Health Check (99% of garages do health checks free on every vehicle that comes in...its an upselling tool)
Courtesy Car*
Collect & Delivery Service*
As for the 10% discount, if I was an ordinary customer and they tried to upsell me brake discs and pads I would ask for 10% on parts and labour...and get it
If the car needed major repairs again I would be asking for 10% parts and labour and get it
Just remember that EVERY franchised dealer has mth end targets, you are not priority, target is, they would much prefer money going into their tills than anyone else's,, even if that means taking a 10% hit which for a £300 bill is £30...its much better to have £270 go towards the target then have a customer take their car elsewhere
So all the add on;s that look attractive are already available if you just ask0 -
Whatever you do - don't take it to Halfrauds. You will be subjected to their brand of 'Open-Wallet Surgery'.
They will 'find' loads of extra things that 'urgently' need to be repaired/replaced - and they couldn't possibly let you drive away with such an unsafe/brink of disaster vehicle.
That will cost you much more than any dealer service plan.
I would go for a Vauxhall Service Plan from your nearest Vauxhall dealership.
It should be valid throughout the whole of the UK and probably the whole of Europe as Vauxhalls are Opels in disguise.
Even in Eire they are badged properly as Opels.0 -
Just done a quick calculation for you, as your car is 3 years old you can take it to the Masterfit side of Vauxhall
Interim service x 3 = £387
Majors x 2 = £400
Thats your five years covered £787...you still have £56 left to take me for a meal0
