Flight delay

Hi would any body be able to give me some advise as I forwarded a thompsons claim form to them requesting compensation for a flight that we took with them where the return flight from Dominican Republic was delayed 4 hours and 40minutes after my original arrival time of landing back in Manchester.
I forward all information as was advised ie flight departuture and arrival time also the amount of kilometres as well as confirmation of our booking also names of primary traveller also passenger stating that claim due to the change in European law I travelled in February 2011 only to receive a letter within there timed response period to be told that my claim was not valid as the time had elapsed more that 2years as they quoted a Supreme Court ruling that within the uk the period of time was only 2years from the date of landing.
Could anyone give me some more information as I am reading the blogs and cannot see where they are getting there information to say I have not got a case for a claim or is it Thompson are trying to put me off by giving me the deliberate wrong information in there defence.
