Thanks for all your replies guys. Yes I understand the reason behind the subject of trade versus houshold waste but it was clear for any reasonable person to see that what was being dumped was anything but trade. A few bits of lawn, some sand, some odd bits of wook that had been used as a border around the very small front garden and half a broken small paving slab. Just one look at my son would have reasurred the dope that he was anything but a builder. I felt like going down there and saying to Mr Tip " just feel his hands, does he seem like a manual worker to you" I always claimed my son thought manual labour was a spaniard! but thats not really fair, he has worked hard to gain his degree and is now in teacher training.

Mr "only firing on one brain cell" told him "sorry mate but you will have to empty your last load tomorrow as "that is another day" Now does this make sense?

To be fair to Mr "only firing on one brain cell" he is only acting on the orders given to him don't you think?

I completely agree. But the chap is only doing the job he is asked to do. Your complaining about the wrong person. You need to question the morons who makes these rules.

It's like when people have a go at doctors and nurses in hospitals about waiting times etc. It's not their fault, it's the morons in the nicely carpeted offices that are to blame.

Sorry I don't mean to sound all moody. Just we as a nation have a tendancy to 'shoot the messengers' and it's why nothing ever changes. :)

Sshh, don't tell anybody, but our local tip/recycling centre help you unload your car and put the stuff in the right place, and if there's anything they consider re-usable (kids bikes and large toys etc) they ask if it's OK for other people to have them then put them to one side (yes thare are people who ditch perfectly good bikes/toys because child has outgrown them.
  • I paid one of my mates sons to clear my front garden, left my trailer out for them to load up the waste. OH came home and tried to take it to the dump and was told he could only take 6 bags of rubbish at a time, they wouldn't even let him drop off six and take the rest home

Then the man looked in the trailer and realised we had some top soil and said there is no way we could dump that anyway. So an irate other half brought the trailer home still full and parked it on the grass outside the house

Next morning I get a knock on the door to question me about the 'flytipping' They said my loaded trailer was flytipping and unless I moved it straight away I was going to get a fine,

So I walked out of the house, on crutches, with 2 toddlers at my heels and asked them if they had any suggestions on how I could move it. They replied "Not my problem" So I burst into tears (with my oldest toddler telling them off for making mummy cry) and they gave me a weeks grace.

Wouldn't be so bad but there is huge pile of c*ap dumped all over my estate that no-one will admit to but they chase people who are actually making an effort to dispose of waste properly - I take it i was an easy target
So my lovely new garden is now under all the rubbish that was removed as I can't get rid of it. so much for spending that money - its only a small garden and I wanted to park my disabled trike out there so I could get out with the kids...

I have a simple solution to the "jobsworths" - whenever they tell you what the "rules" are, just be polite, smile, and ask to see a copy of the rules they are meaning and under which law or by-law they are enforceable by.

9 times out of 10, they can't because there aren't any rules that say what they are trying to claim. Then you just carry on doing what you intended to do in the first place and call their bluff.

Did it at the local tip just this weekend. I was taking an old colour laser printer to the tip which was fairly large and heavy. It came out of my house and has only ever been used domestically for our families computing, which has included higher education courses, hence the need for a decent printer. Jobsworth at the local tip got on his high horse straight away saying that I couldn't leave it as it was "trade". I pointed out that it wasn't and that it was from a house, but then he said the size of it made it "trade" - I asked exactly what size of a printer constitutes trade waste and which by-law or regulation it was specified in, and he just started getting abusive. I asked again for the details of the laws he was specifying and suggested that he asked his supervisors if he didn't know - then he just walked away and I dumped the printer.

I know it is a general impression that the "rules" are made by people sitting at desks with no real life experience, but I think that is quite a travesty as usually when you actually find and read the so-called rules, they don't say what the "jobsworths" claim at all. Somewhere along the line of command and in training, the real rules are being very badly misinterpreted. What is being "enforced" at ground level is very often as far away from the intention of the people who made the rules as is possible - trouble is too many people don't stick up for themselves and their rights against the jobsworths.

Last time we went with more than the "allowance" the jobsworth said he would turn a blind eye if we gave him a tenner. We said we would come back tomorrow.
