Rant at local council

I am spitting feathers! We have just been doing our small front garden up and had some turf, soil and a little rubble to dispose of. Doing the honourable thing and taking it to the local recycle centre. My son who has a ford fiesta offered to take this for us. Well we all know a Ford Fiesta boot is not the biggest of boots and as he was loading this himself he said he would do it in about 3 journey's therefore taking smaller ammounts. (make sense so far) Well the miserable guy at the local tip told him he could only empty what amounts to 1 bin full of rubbish on any one day. He tried to explain that this probably only amounted to one wheelie bin of rubbish but because it was heavy he was doing it in small loads and it was a small boot. Mr "only firing on one brain cell" told him "sorry mate but you will have to empty your last load tomorrow as "that is another day"
Now does this make sense? Had he had a bigger car then it probably would not have been a problem but as he made three separate trips it suddenly was.
So he had to leave the remainder in his car overnight and make another trip the next morning. Doh. Is this a case of pi**** with power or is there some logical reason that I am missing?

I USED TO BE INDECISIVE BUT NOW I'M NOT SO SURE!

Typical council officials - the all think we are the public servants, not them."You were only supposed to blow the bl**dy doors off!!"0

There could be a logical reason Bykerlass. Our Council charges commercial enterprises to take their rubbish etc to sites as they will have more waste than private individuals. It could be your Council does the same thing and to prevent commercial enterprises pretending to be private individuals, they have set up this rule of one load a day on the basis that a commercial enterprise would have too much rubbish to be able to dispose of it on a one load per day basis.
Hope that made sense?

Fleago - get your point, but what appears to be missing from a lot of these re-cycling centres is "common sense".
I have been renovating a house, to move into, and had a huge amount of "flat pack" cardboard to get rid of. I had a Ford Ka, which would have taken weeks to get all the stuff to the centre. My son took it down in his Ranger in one load - was rudely asked "is that trade waste ?" - equally rudely said "no". No further problem !0 -
I think that most people only use the tip (I still call it the tip, even though it is now a trendy 'Recycling centre') when they have a substantial amount of rubbish, and so it is difficult to distinguish between someone having a huge clearout and someone trying to dispose of business waste. My OH borrowed a work van to help move some furniture from his granny's old house - we turned up in it with a logo emblazoned down the side, and a guy did approach us, but as soon as he relised it was a floral patterned sofa and a box of random household nonsense he was fine. It must be hard to decide who is taking the p!ss without trawling through their rubbish, and at least they are protecting us residential CT payers by making some effort.
There is no need to be rude though - that is just uncalled for.0 -
Our tip is the same, only 1 bin full of rubble/soil a day, however i havent yet seen them stop anybody , i had about 30 bags full the other week and they didnt say anything0

Our tip was very silly at one point. We had to take proof of address with us in case somebody from another area tried to use it!Gone ... or have I?0

if you take rubbish to my local tip they ask you if you are a builder and the like, say no and they ask you if you are doing your place up and then if you say yes they want to charge as you are adding to the value of your home!
also they now give out vouchers and say you can only use them once a month,i turned up on my motor bike and they wanted to know how much stuff i wanted to dump loldon't get mad do yoga0 -
We get common sense at the tip we use, we get askd if its trade waste and we answer no and thats all for the questionsNo Links in Signature by site rules - MSE Forum Team 20

Sorry, but have never come across this restriction. Of course your son doesn't want to overload his car. Only restriction I know of at our tip is the white van man thing in case it is industrial waste which incurs a landfill charge.
We can phone for a free extra garden rubbish uplift (other than the fortnightly green bin one). If you black bag it they come along, they empty black bags and put in in the lorry and take away on a Saturday. So long as you don't seal black bags they leave for you to then refill which we have done several times.
Sorry you have had this hastle.
