Sky don't own any exclusive right to provide lines or broadband, there were a few places where BT were not allowed on site but this was usually where the developer did a deal with Virgin and it became exclusive to them, only till the roads and footpaths were adopted by the local council, but as Sky use Openreach local loops then this isn't the case, you could move to another provider but as you have already found other providers quote about the same speed anyway...it the law of physics, if you get 2Mb ish then you are going to be quite some way from the exchange ( 6km ish) and unless fibre is provided to your local copper cabinet there isn't a lot you can do, short of moving, or going 3or 4g with a mobile provider

Hmm I don't understand most of that, sorry! I'm 2 miles from the town exchange, this is what it says for the exchange on Sam Knows:

One of my neighbours was told that information by a Sky call centre - they could have been talking absolute rubbish of course!

The important figure here is your line attenuation of 64 db.
Connection speed is proportional to this.

A quick check on the above suggests a max speed between 2 and 3Mbps, so your figure of 2.4 mbps is about right.
Nothing can be done unless you can get Fibre to the Cabinet at your address.

Thank you, it's all gibberish to me so that's really helpful!
