Hi, My contract ends on 24th may, but my blackberry is breaking I've seen a tariff for £19.50 on Orange, my current tariff is £36.00 a month, will they down grade the contract?, or will I be able to pay for the remaining months? What are my options?

    Eighth Anniversary Combo Breaker
Buy a new phone outright (sim only or PAYG).

Then when the Orange contract ends, go PAYG.

Usually you pay line rental x months left, and may get a small discount, so probably around £100 to end the contract.

Its unlikely they will let you downgrade, but with three months left you may get an early upgrade. However early upgrade offers are generally ho-hum and not the best the network can offer, as they know you can't really leave without a early termination charge..

I've just looked on my account it says my early upgrade date is 8th march do you think I can upgrade even earlier or wait till then?

If your last upgrade was 4th Nov, then a 24 month contract will run to Nov 2014 and a 18 month to May 2014.

Only people who can tell you when you can upgrade are Orange, and a lot depends on your monthly spend, if you consistantly pay them more than your line rental they will be more willing to let you upgrade early.

Yes you need to cancel .
See multiple identical posts on MSE. Contract moves to a rolling 30 day contract until you cancel at the end of the contracted period .

Fuming at yourself presumably for not checking your bank statements in 2 years? As above, it was not a 2 year contract, it was a 2 year minimum term.
No free lunch, and no free laptop ;)
