cemap module1

Hey guys

Ive currently started studying for cemap module 1.

Ive started making some notes. I also had a chance to skim throughsome of the manual. There seems to be an awful lot to digest.

So i was wondering wheather it's essential to know all the information in the module in detail for:
a) a mortgage advisor to do his job effectively?
B) knowing the info in order to pass module 2 n 3. Or without the relevant knowledge from mod 1 will make it impossible or difficult tp pass 2 and 3.

I was just on the taxation section. There was so much info to take. Seems haard at the moment.

Is it the case of just revising to pass the exams or building the knowledge from mod1 to do the job properly.

Part 1 has very very litte to do with being a mortgage advisor.
It gives you an understanding but is far too in depth for the mortgage advisor job.

2 & 3 are more to do with mortgages and are generally the easier to pass. If you get 1 done and dusted the rest will be easier. They also have more to do with the job.

Yes its just a case of passing it.

There is the odd nugget of information in there that will help you in certain circumstances but in the main you wont ever use it.

  • Echo the above; CeMAP 1 is very little to do with mortgages.

Our firm require us to take a monthly CeMAP test, 80% of which is absolutely irrelevant to my day to day job.

CeMAP 3 is far more relevant and is made up of case studies for mortgage advice (assuming it's still the same).

Get some past papers and study material. Learn the answers, more importantly learn why they are correct.

I wish I had done CeMAP prior to working in the mortgage industry. With a background prior to the exams I found some of the content to be 'not the real world' way.

Learn what it wants you to learn. Look at it like passing your driving test. Do what they want you to do then get out there and learn it properly!

    Good Luck

You can remember all this work when some clown asks you why they need to pay you a fee.

  • There's a website called 'Competent Adviser' that houses a lot of regular knowledge tests and company CPD - have a look on there and see if there are any practice tests or anything; I know there's a 'learning library' but whether you can access it without being a member I'm not sure.
