Michael Moore has a point of view, that's very true.
Like any pointed documentary, you need to go in with your brain engaged and ready to think critically about the information being presented.0 -

Why single out the middle to upper classes then?
I'm really not interested in a few inaccuracies, they exist in everything the overall conclusion reached by Moore was right In my opinion.0 -

I didn't single out anyone. I mentioned that the so-called documentary was full of propaganda and fudged facts to match the conclusion and that a lot of people in America wanted to believe it, especially the middle-to upper class (which I was part of at the time). Anyone can make their own opinion, but he made a film and put it out there as a fact-based documentary, which it was not. You can agree with him all you want and many people might do because they think what they've been listening to are real facts.
I grew up in America and went to the schools there and I felt completely safe. But if someone wants to kill someone, they'll find a way regardless of what the laws are. Machetes and knives kill people just fine, don't they? But they're not illegal.0 -
I don't think most people argue for guns to be made illegal. It's more about how they are regulated. I think our laws re gun ownership are tighter than in the USA, and I think that's our advantage.
I'm not exactly against gun ownership, but I don't like the idea of giving weapons away as competition prizes. I hope that at least they have something in the T&C about some restrictions.
Where I used to live, we had a gun shop open a few years before I moved away. I trust that they probably made sure their customers met legal ownership requirements - but I still hated having a shop like that in the community.
I do take your point Create Beauty that you have your own experience of this issue, and you are more used to the idea of guns being a part of your community, without feeling threatened by that.
It's different here for most of us, I guess. Personally, I'm not used to being around guns at all. My experience of guns is mainly in horrible news stories. I guess we're all biased by our experiences, but those experiences are all valid and add something to the debate.

To be honest, I don't think the media portrays the 'real' America over here so I suppose it's pretty easy for people to have the opinions they have.
I also have trouble believing much of anything that comes from the media, especially from America. They can be manipulated so easily by the government. I always think of the movie Wag the Dog when I think of media reports.
I can't say whether I have a preference as I've lived here for nearly seven years and haven't lived in America for that same amount of time. I may be an American citizen, but I can't really call myself an American anymore, I don't think. I hear stories on the news over here then speak to my parents and get a completely different story. Such as Obama being popular ... apparently he is not very popular at all. Then again, that's only the news I'm getting from the Southeastern States...
If you don't mind me asking, what made you decide to move to Mansfield? I live in Nottingham too but wouldn't live there as I too, don't feel particuarly safe walking around.. xThis is a system account and does not represent a real person.
